We were strolling in Old Montreal. Bickering about eating. We turned a corner and discovered this place. She went in, looked around and said "this is the place." We didn't know what to do, the hostess said "come with me." We were guided through the order process. If you caught an employees eye the offered their assistance. It was as though every employee was there to help you. Pastries, cookies, pies and more to entice you while enjoying from their unique selection of lunch choices. The walls are all chalk boards and there is writing on every space. You get the feeling that you could frequent this place and have different quips to enjoy each time. Great location, great atmosphere, great experience and definitely great food. We were 24 hours in old Montreal and this was definitely the frosting on the cake!

We sought out this lunch spot on a recommendation from Jamie Oliver's Magazine and hit on a real winner -- at least for three of us.

Crowded, warm, vibrant, informal, yummy! This is a justifably hoppin' place. Cappuccino was wonderful and the bakery items very tempting -- but we had gone for lunch. We were quickly seated, even though we thought we'd be waiting for about 20 minutes. We were obviously visitors and the server quickly explained the concept and the process -- order at the counter and the food will be delivered. The full menu was in French on expansive blackboards, but the staff was helpful with the translation.

Our only problem arose with our very picky eater. There was absolutely nothing on the menu that he was willing to eat (too much spice, vegetable, flavour) ... this was not the chef's fault. What was troubling, however, was that it seems most everything is prepped to the point it can't be adjusted for special requests. For a picky kid, I am willing to say "tough luck" ... but I am wondering what might have been done for those with food allergies. I'm not sure these could have been accommodated.

So in short, don't hesitate to stop in if you diet is broad and you are looking for some yummy, yummy warmth, but you might want to ask before being seated how they are set for allergies if that's important to you.

Great food, fun surroundings, worth the wait. Went on a Saturday morning and enjoyed every minute. Friendly, attentive staff, delicious spicy egg in your face pannini with just the right touch of heat. Must try
