Recently my husband and I and another couple went to Jack Astor's for dinner prior to a movie. Our waitress was wearing a felt red sqare on her shirt. I asked her what it meant. She then told me it was in solidarity for the student strike. Upon looking around at the other servers and hostessed I noticed many were wearing red in some form. I was appalled at this and it ruined my evening. It is my opinion that if you are working in a public place that you should not bring you polictal views to the forefront. I am the mother of a university student whose son has been prevented from going to classes all semester due to the strike. All I wanted was a nice quiet evening with friends and because the restuarant allowed the workers to overtly express their political view I was upset and unable to enjoy my dinner. My son works hard to pay his tuition and sitting there knowing that the workers in this resturant were some of the ones responsiable for my son being unable to attend class was upsetting. I believe they have to right to express their views in the proper place and at the proper time. On the job in the public sector in my opinion is not the right place. I can not blieve that the management allowed this.
