I stayed here during the July4-5th. This hotel is comparable to Hilton/Marriott with all modern amenities. The reason to stay here would be
a) Situated outside of the Montreal traffic roads and can be easy reached by Car or Metro.
(For US drivers , you can easily reach the Hotel, park for free and use the Metro to explore the city)
b) Free parking
c) 1 min or 30 feet away from the Longeuil Metro station (It takes about 15mins to take the Metro to go to down town or to the main touristy sites)- see google map.
d) Room rates , much lower than the ones within city limits. (I got much cheaper rates when I booked using the various travlel/hotel booking sites, rather than booking directly with the Hotel)
e) Every time I wrote to the Hotel directly, they replied back promptly and with helpful
answers.

For folks who want to see the July 5th fire works: there are stairs next to the parking lot of the
Longeuil Metro station, that can be accessed to go on the Jacques-cartier Bridge for a grand view of the fire works. (or ask the receptionist, how to find the stairs)

Hope this helps.

Room Tip: If you stay here on July 5th , stay on the higher floors, facing the Jacques-cartier Bridge. Then yo...

Stayed at this hotel last summer for 2 nights. Bed was really comfortable, the view was perfect. Very close to La Ronde and the Subway. We plan on staying at this hotel again this summer looking forward to visit beautiful Montreal again.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights (Friday to Monday) on a long week-end with my wife and son and found this to be an ideal hotel for our purposes as we were visiting people in Longueuil. Check-in was a breeze and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful with directions and advise. We drove to Montreal so it was nice not to have to pay additional for parking. The room was in-line with a typical business hotel (not luxurious, but clean, functional and in good repair) and my son enjoyed the swimming pool. The Metro station is right across the street. We bough a 3 day pass and avoided any driving on the island. It was also convenient for a quick trip to the Casino one night (the Casino is one stop away) We come to Montreal often and up until now had always stayed on the Island. Now that we have found this hotel we will be staying here and avoiding bridge traffic when visiting.

Room Tip: None - We had the room right beside the elevators and didn't hear a sound.

We went over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The location really could not be better, practically on the doorstep of the metro that takes you wherever you want to go in Montreal. It's not fancy, as other reviewers have mentioned, but the bed was comfortable and the staff very friendly. We were skeptical because we wanted something nice for our anniversary and the reviews were mixed, but it really turned out to be great. We had a king exec with a pull out couch, with the option to upgrade to a 2 room suite- which we did not do because it would have been unnecessary. We ate poutine from the bar, rented a movie in our room, visited the casino, and toured the downtown. All in all, a great time and the Sandman was reasonably priced compared to a similar quality room in the city.

We have stayed at this chain hotel multiple times for years, almost everytime we visit Montreal from New York. It is not a luxurious place, but definitely adequate for a brief stay. The front desk staff are very helpful, knowledgable and polite. Reservation handling and chrgea are always accurate. For convenience, you can't beat their location: free parking, Metro and out of town bus station and a food and restaurant complex next door with convenience stores including SAQ. You don't need to suffer the inconvenience of driving and parking to maneuver your way around Montreal and surrounding towns. After a late dinner, concert, show downtown, you don't have to worry about late night driving after drinking wine. We also like the quiet surroundings and during special holidays, you can actually watch the fireworks display over the river from your hotel. The hotel has an indoor pool, but a minimally equipped fitness room. If you are looking for a hotel to spend most of your time in, this is not the place to be; however, if you want the most convenient access to downtown Montreal and environs and a quiet place for a night's rest (although their pillows could be less firm), this is the best (especially with the price of gas and traffic downtown) place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river and floor with an ice machine.

On a positive note, hotel staff from reception to housekeeping were very friendly and accommodating - GREAT JOB HOTEL STAFF! Also the rate we paid was fairly economical given the proximity to Montreal proper.

The hotel itself however feels tired and in need of updates. (take note Sandman Corporate)

Our room smelled like BO (body odour) when we first opened the door - whiff....poor first impression. Peeling wallpaper & paint, damaged furniture, broken ice machine, discarded TV depot in the hallway (!) reinforced the poor impressions!

It seemed there were shortcomings at virtually every turn. Example: we primarily booked at this hotel so our young daughter could use the indoor pool which we discovered upon check in was not functioning. On the last day of our stay, when it reopened, the water was freezing cold rendering the pool unusable. Try explaining that to a four year old?!

Room repairs being performed on the floor above made spending time in your room during the day unbearable. At night it was the relentless highway traffic noise that kept our family awake.

Although the Sandman appears close to downtown MTL on a map, the location of this property is very difficult to navigate at first (many one way streets, parking lot exits onto highway on-ramp) and traffic on the JC bridge adds considerable time & stress to your trip into the city.

My advice to travellers would be to spend the extra money to be located in the city and stay at a hotel that is more updated, with amenities that function when you pay for them.

Stayed here with my basketball teammates for a couple of nights. It was quite busy as there was also a music school group staying at the hotel. Hotel is quite average... the basics... considering we payed $110 for each night and it's nowhere close to downtown. The plus side is that it's RIGHT next door to the train station/metro so it's convenient that way.
However, if you are here on holidays and want to be able to walk to places, then this is not the hotel for you.
Free wifi is another bonus with free parking.
Other than that, the rooms are a little old, but they tried updating to make it a bit modern. Furnace/AC is quite loud when it's running. Basic channels (minimal at best).

Overall - I would not stay here again... but it was convenient for our purposes this time.
