“Father and son visitors”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We enjoyed our two-day stay. The room included a bed and a futon which worked well for us. The rate was very reasonable. Alain and Louise were very nice. Breakfast was great. It was a quiet location in a very pleasant neighborhood; we enjoyed the village center with great restaurants and nighttime concerts in the park of St. Mark's. We took the ferry to the Old Port ( a 20 minute walk) and returned from the Metro Station (15 minutes walk) one evening when I didn't want to drive into town. The location is also convenient to Montreal by car.

Room Tip: Alain and Louise helped us to select the best room for our situation.

Just finished spending 4 nights at this B&B and will try to articulate what made this such a forgettable experience for us:

First of all, the positives:
1) breakfast was good and Alain and Lousie tried to cater to our needs
2) beds were comfortable
3) Alain tried to help with tourist ideas but was better suited for the southern part of Quebec than Montreal - he was very open about that.
4) east metro ride to Montreal

Now the negatives:
1) they greeted us ( 2 adults and 2 kids - 10 and 11) at the door and the first words out of their mouths were - "don't flush the toilet after 11 pm because we sleep downstairs" and "take off your shoes"
2) the metro is 20 min walk - and we walk briskly (this is not their fault, but the expectation was different.
3) there is no common area at all so you're confined to your room - there was also no place to sit outside. There was no real hospitality at all. So when we left in the morning, we made sure not to return until 10 pm or after.
4) the soaps, shampoo and other small bottles of lotions had been used
5) the house is decorated in a very stuffy victorian style with no spare room at all - the breakfast area is nearly claustophobic because of the stuff that abounds. It could be that they were trying to sell lamps and other nick nacks but that was never made clear to us.
6) I washed some necessities one night and hung them on the towel rack with towels underneath to catch any water. When we returned the next day, we had a note chastising us on our bed, (plus my husband's computer had been turned off), the towels had been removed (never to re-appear) and the clothes as well. We found the clothes on our bedside table - so I can only assume they had been dried elsewhere. They never said anything to us but when our brother-in-law and his family checked in that evening, their list of rules included the flushing, no shoes AND no washing of clothes in your room.
7) We had the feeling they were constantly looking for something wrong.

There was very little hospitality - maybe if we'd been a couple instead of family, it could have been decent. But not the B&B for us. We left this morning and have checked into another B&B in another town in Quebec, and I was almost shocked by the hospitality by this owner. It was so refreshing ...

Next time instead of trying to save some $$, I will look elsewhere.

Short review for now. Just left. Book with confidence. Family friendly B&B in Art Deco style home, but also very peaceful as its located on a residential block of Vieux Longueuil. Shoes-off policy helps to keep house spotless. Lots of good eating nearby. Payment required on arrival in cash (paypal in advance only). Not ADA Accessible for those who may be concerned.

Room Tip: Book using BBCanada.com (GitesCanada.com) as opposed to Booking.com or other major portal.

This was our second stay at Gite A La Brunante. Just like our first stay a year ago it was perfect. The location in Longueuil is just a short metro ride away from Montreal. Longueuil is a very nice town with lots of good places to eat all within walking distance. The Metro station is a ten minuite walk from the Gite. There are nice parks and shops within walking distance too.
Alain and Louise are the nicest hosts!! The breakfasts are always delicious. The rooms are very comfortable and peaceful. In the backyard you will find 3 decks with seating surrounded by a big vegtable garden. We were very lucky and got to taste some Radishes fresh from the garden!!
In the past we have stayed at other places in Montreal but now this is the only place we will stay!!!
Book early!!! Very popular.

Room Tip: Book early!! Great place to stay for F1 just one metro stop from Circuit Jacques Villeneuve.

We used to live in Quebec but we're now in Toronto, we recently stayed at Gite À La Brunante while visiting some friends in Montreal. Louise and Alain are great hosts, their house is in a great location in Vieux-Longueuil next to the St-Lawrence river. You can easily walk to St-Charles Street and find some good restaurants, grocery store, etc. Driving to Montreal is easy and will take about five minutes. The house it self is really charming, well maintain and the little suite we had was lovely. We will definitely stay there again.
