This restaurant is truely a hidden jewel! The owner/chef Kamal takes such pride in everything served and it truly shows in every bite. From the salad with delicately sliced fresh mango, to the delicious homemade desserts served with moroccan mint tea, the only regret is not discovering this restaurant sooner as it is now one of my favorites! It is best to reserve in advance as they take great care in preparing the seating to ensure a great dining experience, we were there for well over 2 hours (entrée, salad, main with wine, dessert with tea) and didn't feel rushed at all. If you love fresh ingredients and are looking for tasty spanish and moroccan cuisine at a very reasonable price then you will not be dissappointed...

We are a family visiting Montreal, from the United States. Our friend recommended this quaint local restaurant, and we were not disappointed with the outstanding service. Mediterranean and French cuisine were offered in the menu. The cordial chef and his wife supplied warm and hospitable service. The meals were hot, delectable, and delicious; we couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Step out beyond St. Charles Street and get yourself/yourselves to Restaurant Meridional for a meal you will not soon forget!

Staying at a hotel in Longueuil, my husband and I took a chance on this restaurant based upon others' reviews. We not only had a phenomenal meal, we felt like we made new friends with Owner-Chef Kamal and his lovely wife, Yasmine. Both were attentive and interested in us without being overbearing. Yasmine speaks a bit of English and we speak a bit of French and we had no trouble communicating. Kamal is fluent in English and enjoyed discussing the menu and his influences with us. Contrary to earlier reports, the restaurant now has menus written in English.

Kamal is Vietnamese-Moroccan and brings a special sensibility to his meals. We started with a nice bottle of dry red wine and enjoyed escargot prepared in a wonderful sauce made with a base of wine, butter, garlic and herbs. They were done to perfection and served with a baguette, perfect for sopping up every bit of juice. My husband had a nice root-based vegetable soup as I had a light salad.

Our respective entrees were house specialities Couscous Royale and Chicken Tajine. They were delicious. We asked for a "to go" box so that we could sample dessert. We asked Kamal for a recommendation and he brought out a light whipped dessert made in part of ricotta and lime served with a berry coulis. Amazing. We shared a pot of mint tea and left the restaurant completely sated.

As others have noted, Le Meridional is located on the lower level of an old school. We missed it on the first try but circled the block and got it on the next round. The location is unassuming but the food is anything but. We also found the price to be very fair. The decor is very tasteful with white linens on the table.

Regretfully, we live about 525 miles from here and won't return soon, but if we lived anywhere within an hour of here, it would become a regular spot. Thank you, Kamal and Yasmine, for a beautiful evening and perfect end to our Montreal vacation.

We were part of a group celebrating a birthday on a busy Saturday night, so my only criticism would be the speed of service. Could've done with an extra pair of hands. No complaints about the food - the mushroom starter was divine, excellent shrimps and even better cheese dessert. Unfortunately the kitchen ran out of rice which was replaced with tomato-sauce laced pasta at the last minute for some of the guests we were dining with. Definitely a learning for management here - you can run out of anything BUT rice!
