“Stayed at better Hampton Inns”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Hotel is imposing, perhaps a little too much. It has cavernous wings (Towers) which are impersonal with long hallways and well worn carpets. The hotel was undergoing renovation and open doors caused the hallways to be quite cold. The renovation project really did not color my review. The rooms are not large and pretty dark. I am 6' 2" and when stretched out my ankles hung over the end of the bed. They probably would fit someone about 5' 8" or so comfortably. The redeeming point is that there was a great and powerful shower and the breakfast in the restaurant was outstanding ($10 in advance). I don't know what alternatives there are in this community, but I will try to find some other place for any future visits.

Room Tip: Go there for breakfast, but skip staying there.

I am here for a tourism conference and am staying at Le Montagnais. The hotel is known for its family friendly aqua facility. In order for the hotel to host this conference, they shut down and drained their main attraction! What were they thinking??? I even brought my 11 year old with me to test drive the facility. Talk about disappointed. The hotel is maze-like with old with "revitalized" sections that are not that updated. D block has one very slow elevator that fits only 3 people. My "upgraded superior room" is tiny, dated, unclean (seriously, there was an entire bag of crushed chips under the bed), smelled of gross amounts of cleaning fluid and tiles that need repair in the bath. The beds are so hard (I mean Mexico hard) and the hotel offers no bed toppers to compensate. The bath was ill-equipped with 1 hand and 1 bath towel for 3 people. The hotel needs updating - I won't send anyone here until it is completed.

Room Tip: D block is the best you can get at this hotel (Superior Rooms)

Room in C-block was motel style so could park immediately outside room. Room itself was large, clean but rather dated. Breakfast not included. Staff were helpful enough - though I did have to negotiate rate.

Location is out of town but there are fast food restaurants, supermarket and gas station all close by.

Stay was comfortable and quiet but uninspiring.

This hotel is very large with a variety of rooms. We were in Building B, on fifth floor. Only drawback, not enough elevators for the number of rooms. Otherwise, very comfortable beds, clean. Lots of restaurants and supermarket very close by.

Room Tip: Ask for Building B, superior rooms.

If you can stay elsewhere, go for it. While there was nothing terribly wrong with this Hotel, it is a regional convention center and caters to large groups and tours. The night we stayed it was sold out and from the get go at reception, it was clear to us from the place and attittude of the staff that it was take it or leave it. The room was clean although the carpet was dirty and smelled of cleaning chemicals. The A/C was noisy and continuously cycled on and off all the time making restfull sleep impossible. The tour bus crowd are early risers so there was a lot of very early morning noise from people in the corridors and outside from the tour buses. With the shortage of hotel rooms in Chicoutimi during the summer months and very little B/B's in the area, this Hotel gets a lot of traffic on weekends and during the July-August tourist months. Was definitely not my 1st choice but was the only Hotel or B/B available on short notice booking in August. Stay elsewhere if you can but if not, it's acceptable but don't expect to sleep late if you are on one of the ground level wings.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground level rooms as they are very noisy from people and car traffic. Try and get a room...

We were here July 2012.
The main attraction in this hotel is their pool and the kids loved it.
The rooms are kind of feeling tired though probably especially bacause of the pool, the carpet is probably getting soaked every now and then due to kids coming back from the pool.

I asked for higher floors in my reservation and was given a ground floor room. I asked again when checking in and was denied. I later complained about the room smelling damped and only then was I given a floor in the 3rd or 4th floor (don't remember it very well now).

Overall though and considering the limited hotels in the area,.. it could be worse. I would probably book here again if the I get a good deal if we visit again. But then again, this place isn't just around the corner from Toronto.

There place is conveniently located though, grocery and restaurant and a mall nearby.

Room Tip: Do not get a floor in the ground floor.

If you are in Chicoutimi; the hotel options are somewhat limited. I usually stay at le Montagnais. It is on the expensive side for what you get (but it certainly beats other hotels/motels). It is in needs of upgrading (the 80's decoration has to go) but it is clean and the service is very good. Convenient access when coming from Quebec city. Do request the new pavillion (A), renovated and nicer. Good stop for business, would never stay here for an extended vaction stay with the kids!

Room Tip: Request the A pavillion, nicer and renovated. You need a car to "get around" - nothing re...
