Description: Things you need to know before you get here,,, - Don't wait for a maitre D in a 3 pc suit to seat you. Seat yourself - Don't ask for ice. Drinks are served in very cold cans and bottles with a wrapped straw. Why? Cans and bottles are recycled across the street while dirty glasses require the use of fossil fuels to heat dishwasher. Don't ask for a glass of ice water with a lemon either. Cold bottled water is $1.00 - There are no germ infested re used menus at the table. The menu is on the wall. - If the waiter seems to be ignoring you its because he didn't notice you as a new customer. Don't sit there and stew about it. Let him know you would like to order.

“One of the few decent places to eat in Summerside”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

Skip's isn't big on atmosphere but it's clean the food and prices are good. In most cities, I wouldn't rate it above 3 out of 5, but finding a decent meal in Summerside can be a challenge, so I'm giving it an extra mark because of how it compares to the other restaurants in town. The one-piece fish is a huge portion and the fries are the tasty home-cut variety. We didn't have the sundaes, but saw others who did and they looked good. I still think Captain Scott's in Cavendish would win a PEI fish & chips competition, but it is only open in the summer, so Skip's is a great choice for your off-season fish craving. They also have a limited selection of other menu items if you are eating with non-fish-lovers.

“A real gem! - Truly where the locals eat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

This is an update to our May 2010 review. And since it was our fifth straight year vacationing in PEI, the FIRST place we went for a meal upon our arrival was, well you guessed it, Skip's!

We are pleased to report that the fish & chips is still the best to be found anywhere. We would love to see them enter a fish & chips island-wide competition, just to see how they would rate. (if not at the top, then very close to it!)

My wife and I learned long ago to stay away from the tourist traps and to discover where the locals eat. Skip's Fish N Chips is definitely the place! Most PEI restos do not serve fish & chips with malt vinegar, so we bring our own. Surprise. Skip's still has a bottle of malt on every table! The fries, with skin on, are crisp and delicious. I recently obtained the recipe for the best fries in PEI which I will happily pass on to Captain Skip next summer.

The scallops are to die for and the poutine is very good, according to my French Canadian wife - and she knows poutine! Paul and Michelle, the owners, are most enjoyable people and care about your satisfaction. The place is always busy, local customers come to eat in or to take out. The best part is that tourists are only beginning to discover this Summerside gem.

Paul, this is never mentioned, but you also have the BEST coffee cup on this side of the Loyalist!

“Great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

This is a little resturant that is not on anyones radar simply because it in off the beaten track a little and there is no big showy sign telling everyone where it is. The food , however is second to none and the prices are excellent! Great job !! Portions are quite large and filling and although you may not have the "money dining" feeling it is a truly great little spot to have a good meal.

“Our favorite place in Summerside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

We are long-time summer residents of PEI and look forward to eating at Skip's every year. My husband always gets the fish and chips special, and as I am not fond of fish, I get a burger and poutine which I enjoy very much. The fish and chips are perfectly fried with a light batter, the portions are generous, you can't beat PEI potatoes, and the prices are right. Food is cooked to order, and the owner is always present and friendly. We are very flattered that he remembers us from year to year! The atmosphere is nothing fancy, just casual and comfortable. Skip's is the bright light in the dismal restaurant scene in Summerside.
