“Set your expectations low”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Shipwright Inn because of a glowing review of the Inn in Fodors. We expected it to be a highlight of our trip after reading the review. Our room was spacious and clean. The treats in the afternoon tasted like they had been baked months ago and stored in a freezer. The same could be said about the breakfast pastries (muffins). I asked about having an egg and an egg white scrambled for breakfast, and it was a major ordeal. Our bed linens felt like bumpy jersey . We are used to the owners of the Inn making recommendations for activities and restaurants and being enthusiastic about the area. That was missing. In all fairness there were restaurant menus and a sheet about the owner's favorite. I guess it was just not the personal touch we expected.

We employ a fully qualified Culinary Institute trained pastry chef who daily bakes all of our treats / breakfast goods from scratch in our kitchen. Nothing is bought in or frozen. We shop daily to ensure that everything is fresh. Given that our open concept kitchen sits in the middle of the dining room guests at all times can see our chef not only preparing their breakfasts to order but also baking the afternoon refreshments for that day.

We are able to accommodate all types of diet and every email confirmation asks for our guests to advise us of any dietary / allergy requirements. As you can imagine nowadays there are a huge number of specific diets and we are pleased to be able to manage the needs of all of our guests.

Whilst we only state on our menu one hot course which changes daily, our chef is always happy to accommodate guests wishes with an alternative, if requested.

Our linens, new for this season, have been complemented on numerous occasions by guests who have stayed with us this Summer.

We are always pleased to offer our guests recommendations for the best restaurants in town and also provide suggestions as to what guests must see and do in town and on the Island.

Recently spent two plus weeks at Shipwright Inn. Found the owners Judy and Trevor to be extremely helpful in every way. happy to give advice on day trips - answering our many questions - making dinner reservations(advise to let them do it) and much - much more. Accomodations always clean and fresh. I am fairly "picky" about this and I have not one negative comment. within walking distance of shopping - boardwalk and restaurants. Should our travels take us this way again - definitely stay here. The staff of three girls - very , very pleasant and full of humor. One tip -- Ice cubes are numbered.

We loved having you guys stay with us and ditto on the humour. The ice cubes are still numbered just in case you were concerned. Couldn't have met nicer, sweeter people. The pleasure was definitely all ours.

We are a family of 3, and stayed at the Shipwright B&B at the end of August, (2012), and would highly recommend this spot to anyone. It is situated in a residential type area, but just minutes away from the center of town, (by foot), and offers wonderfully clean, spacious, comfortable rooms, an excellent breakfast, many nice extra touches, such as a magazine rack, ( you would be hard put to not find something you liked to read from there!), cookies/beverages during the day, easy parking, and very helpful hosts!....Thanks for a wonderful visit.

We stayed three nights in late August. Our hosts were pleasant and attentive, and able to direct us to the nicest spots in Charlottetown and around the island. The restaurants and shops of Charlottetown were within easy walking distance, as was a spur of the cross-island bicycle trail, the Confederation Trail. The room was beautiful (and immaculate). Breakfasts were ample and creative. Very highly recommended!

We stayed here for five nights in September 2012. Trevor and Judy and the staff were great hosts. They provided useful information about visiting Charlottetown and the environs and were helpful in many ways. The inn is walking distance from Queens Street, the main street in town, but not on a busy street. Food was good and the room (Captain's Room) was spacious and comfortable. We'd stay there again.

We enjoyed everything aboiut this Inn. The decor is maticulous and it is very clean. The host and hostess go out of their way to make sure that everything you may need is available evn by having a flashlight by your bedside just in case. There is always a snack available, a living room to sit in, a game room to play in, a frig right outside your room. This is the most detailed inn we have stayed in and we both recommend it highly. We are a mature couple with traveling experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Captain's quarters.

We spent a delightful evening at the Shipwright Inn back in mid August. We had just darted across foe the evening, from a more extended stay in New Brunswick, so it was important that ournone night on the Island was near perfect. This Inn certainly lived up to their end. From the personal reception and tour of the amenities, to the delicious breakfast in the morning, right up until departure we loved our stay. Will recommend this Inn without reservation.

Room Tip: The rooms can be rather hot, in the summer, as is normal in a building of this vintage. But, we had...
