We called on short notice to stay at this inn in Charlottestown. I was surprised at how pricey rooms were in this town, but this inn seemed to have the best deal when I called around ($195/night). Our room was on the first floor, clean, and well appointed. The staff was very friendly and curteous, and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. The inn is withing walking distance of the historic downtown area of town. The lobby is particularly nice with tea and coffee available all the time. I would definitely recommend this inn to others.

I have little more to add to the copious number of rave reviews the Great George has received, but I thought I would mention a few details that some travelers might want to consider. First, the IGG buildings aren't exactly true historic edifices. The original 19th-century facades facing the street are original, but literally everything behind them was demolished to make way for a wholly new set of buildings. This is great if, like another poster noted, you don't want creaky floors or a vaguely musty smell, but it might be not-so-great if you're seeking a stay in a legitimately antique 150-year-old building. Also, the hotel has a shortage of parking, and should you return to your hotel anytime after about 8pm, it's likely the lot will be full (at least during peak season, when the hotel itself is often full). I don't personally consider this a big deal, since there seems to always be parking available on the two side streets the hotel is situated between, but again, it's something some might consider a negative. I will reiterate, however, that neither of these facts influenced my personal review in the slightest! I give the Great George an A+ all-around, and I especially appreciated (as someone who needs to keep up with what's going on at the office) the free wireless Internet throughout the hotel (and there's also a free computer terminal in the lobby for those who want to check e-mail but don't want to lug a laptop around on their vacation).

The Inns is a top-of-the-line property - they do everything right. The staff is wonderful and the range of rooms offers something for everyone. Our suite was in a traditional looking building, but the rooms were modern and soothing with comfortable leather sofas and bedding that was a dream! The evening cookies were delicious and the breakfast was plentiful. We were very sorry to have to leave when it was time for us to move on to our next destination.

Have stayed here several times over the past 5 or 6 years and consistently a nice place to stay - whether visiting Charlottetown on business or on vacation.. Each stay has been in a different type of accomodation, but always fresh and clean. My most recent visit was with family - we stayed in Harris House which is a 4 bedroom house with a full kitchen, living room and 2 full baths.
The staff are extremely helpful - willing to help with dinner reservations or any activity. The breakfast (included in the rate) is nice (and again consistent).
Anytime I have a reason to be in Charlottetown, I try to stay at Inns on Great George.

As part of a world trip over Dec/Jan, my wife and I stayed for two nights at the Great George. Wish it had been longer...
It was a quiet and cold month on PEI, but we were happy to spend time at the Great George. As mentioned in other reviews, brilliant breakfast, cookies etc. The staff also went out of their way to help try and provide us with information and booklets for travelling around the area. There was one computer in the lobby area with free internet which was also a bonus.
Great to come in at night and have bed turned down and chocolates at the ready - an example of what the place was like!

My wife and I stayed at the Great George in 6/06 for two nights. We were treated to a first class experience that was the highlight of our trip to PEI. There was not a single detail that was not attended to, the room was fantastic and the breakfast was an unexpected pleasure. Homemade cookies and coffee were always available. The staff was incrediblely helpful, pleasant and unassuming. In fact, my wife lost her glasses and when we called the hotel from home they searched the room, found the glasses and promptly shipped them back to us. Don't miss the Great George.
