“Most enjoyable stay”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We stayed at the Great George Hotel in early October of this year (2012) after a week in New York to celebrate our Ruby Wedding anniversary and the difference in service and the quality of the hotel was immediately obvious. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the hotel had a very welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is made of of several buildings, all looking like separate houses which was quite unusual after the normal rush found in most hotel reception areas. We were in the main building and had very pleasant room on the first floor and our relatives stayed in one of the other buildings which seemed to consist of the whole of the upstairs. The breakfast buffet was served in the lounge area which was a pleasant change from sitting in a crowded restaurant as is the norm and the furnishings of leather sofas and real wood added a homely feel. There was an early evening "Happy Hour" which was very unusual in that you could have a glass of wine, beer or soft drink free if charge and tea and coffee are also available throughout the day. There are a variety of good quality restaurants within easy walking distance and the staff are happy to suggest several options. Free wi-fi is available in the rooms if you need it with a PC and printer located just off the lounge if you need to print your boarding cards. In my business life I spent many years staying at different hotels across the world but can honestly say that this was one of the most enjoyable.

We stayed in 13 hotels on our Eastern trip and this was the best. We had a suite in one of the houses (Hughes) that is part of the property. We did not want to leave. It had a kitchen that we did not use as well as a living room area with a HD TV and long desk. The decor was modern with some really great lamps and furnishings. The bedroom was top notch and the bathroom was also modern. The hotel is located near everything in town so you can walk everywhere to see things or find great dining choices. The accompanying breakfast was terrific in the main building. I had a lot of variety. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything hummed right along and someday we hope to make the long trip back to PEI and stay here again.

Room Tip: I imagine they are all awesome.

I stayed in a traditional room, which had a living area, full kitchen, a 2 - sided electric fireplace (living area & bedroom sides) and a full bath. The room was very clean. The hotel offers free wi-fi. There is a complementary continental breakfast in the lobby every morning, free cookies starting in the afternoon, and free wine at night. The buildings are not all connected, but even though it rained during our trip, this was no big deal. The people I was traveling with got rooms equivalent to townhouse with multiple bedrooms (each has a key-access door) and multiple floors. In hindsight, we could have all stayed in the same "room". Those ones had full dining rooms and decks as well. The hotel in in a great location near the water and lots of little restaurants and pubs nearby

My husband and I stayed at the Great George for three nights while on our honeymoon. We booked a standard room, but upon our arrival we found we were upgraded to a romantic hideway suite in the Carroll House. When the front desk staff found out we had just gotten married, we were offered a complimentary chilled bottle of sparkling white wine when we were shown to our room. Our suite was absolutely amazing! A sitting room with a fireplace, flat-screen TV and a balcony, and upstairs we had another balcony, flat-screen TV, an amazing king bed with a jacuzzi tub across from it -- plus a standup glass shower in the bathroom. And oh, the skylights! The modern, chic decor. We absolutely loved our suite! The front desk staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about local places to eat and things to do -- if in the mood for pizza, please check out Famous Peppers! Literally the best pizza we've ever eaten! So much so that we ordered from there every single night. Also, check out Gahan beer... It's amazing! Plus, complimentary fresh baked cookies, happy hour on weeknights, complimentary soft drinks (my 1am Pepsi craving was satisfied just like that!) and turndown service with chocolates... literally, our experience was flawless. We're so impressed!

I cannot wait to come back to the Great George for our anniversary next September and experience it all over again!

Stayed here nights 3-5 of our 10 day trip. Absolutely perfect. I think we got an upgrade because of a bus group. Incredible new, spotless suite with full kitchen. Quiet, fantastic bed and bathroom. Had washer and dryer even, which too early in trip to need. Staff so genuinely friendly and helpful. Younger but all seemed to enjoy their job, how refreshing. I later learned that the same guy, outfit owns many of the recommended businesses, a lot like Niagara on the lake, Ontario. We ate dinner out only one evening, had late lunches and just enjoyed wine and snacks in Our wonderful hideaway other two nights. One of those visits I'm afraid to ever repeat because it was so perfect. But I'll always recommend it.

We recently had three nights at the Great George when travelling with a group. We were in the main building & had a very comfortable room.

A complimentary drink in the lounge each evening was very pleasant & much appreciated by all. And the continental breakfast also served in the lounge was more than adequate.

The central location of this beautiful hotel was perfect for a visit to Charlottetown.

Highly recommended.

All I can say is beautiful hotel. Extra touches throughout the hotel including fresh baked cookies in the lobby and happy hour at 5pm. Staff was friendly and the hotel spotless. Bed were comfortable and I can honestly say the best sleep I have had in a hotel. We had a suite with a upstairs jacuzzi. The room was beautiful. It was close to sydney street with all the restaurants/pubs and walking distance to all the downtown places.
Next time I come this is definately a hotel I would stay in again.
