This beautiful, large B&B owned and operated by caring, thorough and pleasant professionals, Jay and Carol MacDonald helped to make our visit to Charlottetown, PEI one of the highlights of our recent visit to the Maritimes. Their attention to our every wish and need extended to procuring advance sale tickets for us to an outstanding performance of "Anne of Green Gables" at the Confederation Center for the Arts....in the best seats in the house! The Elmwood Heritage Inn is a "must visit" stop for us in the future.

Room Tip: The Peake Suite was perfect for a couple traveling with a friend.

It has always been my dream to visit Prince Edward Island and it became a reality in the summer of 2012 when my husband and I went for our honeymoon! We stayed at the Elmwood for five nights and the experience was completely delightful! Jay and Carol were perfect hosts and provided everything we could have possibly needed. The house was lovely with all of its Victorian charm. We stayed in the third-floor Rose room, which was an enchanting experience for us newlyweds. It was a little difficult getting our luggage up the tight staircase (Jay was very helpful), but it was well worth it. We enjoyed relaxing in our room as well as spending time on the second floor lounge.

Every morning, we looked forward to the divine, gourmet breakfasts prepared by both Jay and Carol. The portions were perfect and always had a special personal flare, such as Jay's special orange butter sauce for french toast. It was also nice to be served with the fine, exquisite china and silverware that Jay and Carol have collected. We enjoyed seeing the antique collections and decor all around the house. The breakfast meal was always very pleasant.

Both Carol and Jay were very helpful in providing ideas, advice and directions for sightseeing around the island. This made our planning more efficient. They were also helpful in securing tickets to the Anne of Green Gables musical at the local Confederation Center, a must-see for any Anne fans. Visiting Green Gables and all of the "Anne" attractions was a major highlight of the trip and Carol and Jay helped in making it happen!

During our stay in PEI, my husband got extremely ill from eating mussels for the first time from a local restaurant in Charlottetown. He became so ill that I had to awaken Jay and Carol in the middle of the night for help. Jay immediately called an ambulance and helped me get my husband to the hospital. They both provided me with comfort and assurance that they would help in any way possible. My husband survived the experience and when we got back to the Elmwood, Carol was more than accommodating in providing special food for my husband. I was so grateful to not be alone in this situation and was glad that Jay and Carol were there.

Our stay at the Elmwood was an extremely memorable part of our visit to PEI. Jay and Carol make it very warm and welcoming. We were able to rest and relax in the house and the surrounding gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to return soon!
Many thanks! - Rachel and Eric

Stayed in both a room and a suite at this B and B. Since the room had a comfortable bed and every convenience we required, it was the better value. But, the suite was a nice splurge. It was very spacious, had a working fireplace and a huge tub. Our host, Jay, patiently explained how the fireplace and the tub worked.

Jay and Carol are the perfect hosts. They really enjoy people and want you to get the most out of your stay on PEI. They never tire of answering questions and suggesting good places to eat or visit. And, having been in business for 25 years, they know just how to make your time at Elmwood special. Both Jay and Carol orchestrate the breakfast experience, making sure that guests not only enjoy some delicious meals but that the breakfast conversation is fun and informative.

Elwood is well located in Charlottetown. Near the downtown waterfront but in a quiet street with off street parking. Definitely a great base for exploring the city and PEI.

Our first B&B. It was nice. We liked it. The room is nice, the food was great and the hospitality was nice, more personal then those hotels.
It was a pity that it was for only one night on our way to Nova Scotia from Boston. It was nice after a long long drive. It was a rainy day and they let us keep our bikes in their garage for overnight.
Breakfast was fresh, warm and good.

Outstanding B&B! 1880's Victorian with matching decor. Very well appointed and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is amazing. it was our 25th and our hosts, Carol and Jay, surprised us with champagne. Nice touch! The hosts were much more than helpful with a variety of information on sights, restaurants, ferry rates, golf recommendations et al. When back in PEI we're coming here!

The Elmwood Heritage Inn provided everything you could want from a B&B experience. It is a house with character and rooms comfortably furnished in keeping with the period. We stayed in the Library room, which had a large and luxurious bathroom, plenty of books, and room for reading. One reviewer commented that the house was dark - and it is somewhat - but I think that comes with the shade trees and Victorian era. The rooms are nicely decorated without too much Victorian lace and frills - well within our comfort zone for that kind of thing.
The breakfasts were wonderful and a great way to start each day. I appreciated that the portions were not oversized - seconds were available for the asking, but we were served just the right amount of food.
The house is, as they say, a 15-20 minute walk to most of the restaurants and such in downtown Charlottetown, and we enjoyed the walk home through Victoria Park after overindulging in the great restaurants in Charlottetown. Jay and Carol are great hosts - friendly and willing to provide help or advice with any arrangements. - we'll certainly return when we next visit PEI.
