Owner description: The birthplace of Confederation and the seat of PEI's provincial legislature since 1847, Province House National Historic Site is Charlottetown's most significant cultural landmark. Walk in the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation as you learn about the history of this magnificent example of neo-classical architecture and see how it remains a centre of political life for Islanders today.

We were on a limited budget of time and could not take a tour but the guides posted around the building were very helpful and even our American friend understood the importance of the building to the founding of Canada.

The building still contains several older style furniture pieces that are used today. Particularly in the chambers. The staff was very helpful and answered the 6-7 questions I asked cheerfully.Note: the building is undergoing some renovation at this time.

This is the birthplace of confederation. You can see the original room where the fathers of Confederation met and watch an informative video about the meeting.( it is 17 minutes long) Allow about a half hour to visit. It is right downtown and very near all of the other wonderful things to see and do in Charlottetown so drop in (It is free) Parliament still meets in this building and you can see that too!

This is where it all started and Canada became a nation if you like history than I suggest you go to see where it all began. During the summers months, they have actors and actresses who dress up to the era of time. Worthwhile seeing while in Charlottetown
