We had dinner at Nico Ristorante after reviewing all of the choices on Erie St. The main reason for choosing this place was the house made gnocchi. We were greeted and sat promptly. We found the staff to be accomodating and excellent, with Johnny in particular taking great care of us throughout the night. Johnny had my wife's plate split so she could try both gnocchi choices, of which, she found the gnocchi funghi to be her favorite. I had the ragu style bolognese pasta. I found my dish to be delicious and both portions more than adequate in size. Our appetizer was the Caponata. We found the dish to be quite interesting and prepared well, though my wife would have liked it at room temperature, while I found the cold presentation on top of the bread and goat cheese to be perfect and I think it really brings the flavors out. We both commented that this appetizer would be great in the summer with a cold, crisp glass of Pinot Grigio. We complimented dinner with a bottle of Valpolicella. There was no room for dessert. We found the dining room to be small enough to be intimate and comfortable and would highly recommend not only for the food, which was authentic and some of the best, we have had but also for the service. You really feel at the end of the evening a connection with the staff, like a regular after only one visit. It appeared to us that this place has alot of returning customers, which is always a good sign. There was a big party who appeared to be dining family style and I have to say the meal that they received looked really good. Based on that, we would recommend this place for a family gathering.
