My wife and I have stayed at the Hampton and the Holiday Inn across the street, and we both prefer the Holiday Inn.
The Hampton is the newer property, and the rooms and facilities are nice enough, but the staff leaves something to be desired. It seems as if many of the people working the front desk are very young and inexperienced. As a result, things tend to "fall through the cracks". For instance, during our stay, the hot water to our room was suddenly turned off and we had to switch to a different room since no one was available to fix the problem.
Moreover, although the hotel allows pets, it's not particular "pet friendly". The manager complained to us at one point that "our dog had been barking for hours" (quote) even though we had only left her alone in our room for 40 minutes or so while we used the pool (at approximately 6pm in the evening). I don't dispute that the dog may have been barking; but the reaction of the hotel staff seemed rather over the top.More
