We dine in both kosher and non-kosher restaurants, and I never seem to get over why the kosher ones are almost always a compromise. When Bistro Grande opened, it held a lot of promise. Years later, the decor is delapidated and dirty, the food is overly spicey and average, the service is borderline and the smell remains on your clothing for hours afterwards. There's a refrigerated case at the front that's been papered over - WHY??! - and duck tape on the very dirty floor by the door. The 'maitre d'' stands 20 feet from the door - another WHY??! - and the menus are downright dirty too. Where is the owner of this joint, aside from absentee? Why can't this be a respectable joint, like any other supposedly classy dairy restaurant in Toronto? They were lucky to get 3 stars. Fix it up.
