I took the Himalaya Feast sampling menu. Food was very good without being extraordinary. Service was great.

After BANJARA flew the coop some good 5 years ago, this is by far the
best Indian food downtown in Toronto.
They were even better when they also served beef dishes, but they're still
great,
Service is a tad slow.

My husband son and I had an overnight hotel stay in Toronto December 5th 2011 and craved a good curry. My husband did a quick research on the internet and found Kathmandu restaurant, even better since it promised fine Nepalese cuisine. The deal was sealed when the website promised 15% off your meal upon presentation of a coupon, all one had to do was print it off. Well since we were in a hotel and didn't have easy access to a printer, we took a picture of the coupon on our phone. The restaurant is not the best looking establishment .. but since we were there for the food and we had a 15% off coupon we thought .."Why Not?"
We had a starter of samosas, not bad but a little too deep fried for my liking. My husband had a lamb korma and I had the chicken dil ruba, our son shared with us. We also ordered rice, naan and raita. Washed it down with a nice bottle of Cave Spring Riesling. Food was fine, wine was great, all in all we were quite pleased with our choice... that is until we tried to get 15% off our food bill with a photo of the coupon from their website. No! We were told they would need a paper copy....Really? Well did they have a printer we could use? NO. hmmmmm
We left feeling aggrieved that the restaurant would not honour the 15% off.
Will we go back next time we are in Toronto? NO! Will we recommend to friends who live there or visit regularly like us? NO!

Kathmandu is probably the best Indian restaurants in downtown. You may complain about the ambience, saucy paneer butter masala, the serving size for mixed starter platter or delayed service - irony is this is one of the better Indian restaurants you'll get in downtown.

$13 buffet is simply great value for money and so are madras chicken, bhindi masala and veg jalfrezi. The congested ambience may not be of your liking however don't insist on ordering food at home - delivery is slow and you may not like to bite your teeth in to dry naan. Another word of caution is never try buffet served as takeaway as the box-size for it may deceive you for quantity.

Probably eating here quite frequently has immuned my taste buds. Recently discovered a small restaurant on parliament street - butter chicken factory seems better than others i've tasted so far esp. chicken tikka masala and malai kofta
