This review is based on a visit to the First Canadian Place location: for years I lived just south of the location on Spadina and never visited. Then found a tiny bakery location in First Canadian Place and WOW, was I pleasantly surprised.

Such an array for savory and sweet pastries to choose from, who knew? I had the Curried Beef Pastry. Tender, juicy, lightly curried beef, wrapped into a flaky pastry pocket. For $1.58 (tax included!) you can not go wrong. Most of their pastries are about $1.50 which makes for a great snack on the go.

They've got other sweet confections (North American and more Asian inspired) as well as other lunch items; all super cheap and cheerful. I will definitely be going back.

I was actually looking for 'Pie in the Sky' while walking and could not locate them and chanced upon Furama by walking by and getting a whiff of the wonderful bakery aroma from outside on a sunny crisp Sunday morning (November). The bakery is in the middle of Chinatown on Spadina (near Dundas and Spadina @ 250 Spadina)). It is a help yourself setup with a tray and tongs. The array of deserts is diverse and ranged from a bun with green beans in it to ham and cheese rolls, peach butter loaf (thing), etc. I am sure I am not doing them justice! The place was very clean almost austere in its simple layout but comfortable and inviting too. I love almond so I picked up an almond twist that was literally melt-in-your-mouth fabulous. I also picked up three other pastries (for the kids sleeping back at the hotel) - a coconut something that resembled a macaroon, an apple pastry, etc. 4 Pastries plus a carton of milk for $6. There prices were extremely reasonable (in comparison to any bakery but especially for Toronto).

Forget about doughnuts, this is cheaper and far more interesting. They do Western pastries just as well as they do Asian favourites. I haven't been disappointed yet.
