Very friendly servers unlike the condesending hostess, whom we overheard discussing us with a member of staff - very unprofessional. The food was served quickly and efficiently but was very mediocre. Small portions of frozen fries, fish, chicken , sausage etc. Overall, nothing like a British pub where the food would be fresh. flavoursome and plentiful believe me I would know being British. Disappointing and we not recommend or return!

Why is it,that so many British pubs in Toronto have dropped the traditional pub food from their menus? What happened to the "Steak & Kidney Pie" and the "Bangers & Mash"? Why have Asian stir-fried meals, designer hamburgers and Panini Sandwiches replaced the "Shepherd's Pie" and the "Liver & Onions" ? But not all is lost. If you have a craving for excellent pub fare, head to the "Gull & Firkin" on Queen Street East,in the Beaches area of Toronto. This is not another bistro or sports bar, masquerading as a pub. The "Gull & Firkin" is what you want a British Pub to be....welcoming and liverly atmosphere, fast service with a smile, great food (try the "Bangers & Mash" or the "Fish & Chips"),a good selection of domestic beers (try the pale ale from the "Granville Island Brewing" in Vancouver,BC) and some international beers.Unfortunately parking at the Beaches is always a pain, try the residential street, that runs parallel to Lake Ontario (ends at Lakeshore Rd.),or if you feel energetic enough, park (free during the winter months) a little bit further west at the "Boardwalk Cafe'" (presently closed for renovation) and walk to the pub.Or take the Queen St. street car.Out front the "Gull & Firkin" has a nice patio, great for people watching during the summer. If you feel you should walk off some calories, head down to the beach. The Boardwalk follows the shoreline of Lake Ontario for a quiet a distance and is great for walking, biking and people/dog watching.

Seriously - you walk in here and everyone knows each other. Packed year round - especially on Sundays for football or on hockey night (when the NHL is not locked out) the Firkin - run by a brother and sister team is always consistent with their food - great pub fare (Awesome fish and chips!) and service with a smile. Great patio for people watching during the months its open!

Been going here for years before I moved away. Never a fan of the menu, eventhough they do have quite a few specials like oysters on wednesday. Lots of tvs for events, and plenty of seating.Very nice owners and nice front patio right on Queen. MadDog from Virgin 99.9 goes here..seen him several times - cool guy.
All in all one of the better pubs on queen st...parking is always an issue anywhere in the beaches tho...

This is a great pub with lots of TVs for various sports which can get busy during important matches. The front patio is nicely set up and the cocktails and beer are great. The service is excellent and friendly and the food is very good with lots of variety to choose from. We've never had a bad pub meal there. We go there regularly and find that it is consistently good.
