Me and some friends were out wandering one day and found the big ragu. What a treat! The food was absolutely amazing! We were greeted at the door with a smile by our waitress and she recommended the the big ragu (their signature dish!) and crab ravioli (one of the specials at the time). We ordered one of each and shared. Honestly, some of the best food I've ever tasted! I strongly recommend going here! I left with a full stomach and a giant smile on my face :)

We had a great meal at The Big Bag. Trust the chef/owner Johnny. Pastas were perfect and they won't let you leave till you're full :) Can't wait to return. Great food and casual vibe.

Four of us dined based on Trip Advisor reviews for a casual night out with friends.
Made a reservation via email which was quickly confirmed. Loved that.
Arrived at restaurant and quickly seated - empty except for one other table. First impressions were: No wonderful aromas coming from kitchen as one would expect from small Italian local. No music. Friendly server, brand new and eager to please. Menu looked promising with daily specials. Prices a little high based on location but not intimidating. Ordered a half litre of house wine for two of us drinking. Excellent. Bread arrives - slightly toasted with a La Bomba style spicy spread on the side. No butter or olive oil offered. Pretty good but bread neither fully toasted to a crostini nor fresh from bakery. It was only okay.
Grilled calamari arrived. A little chewy, not grilled nor charred enough for our taste and with a mayo based garnish. It was just okay.
Shared a simple salad. Cucumbers obviously partially frozen but still served. Dressing was well balanced. It was okay. We were hungry. Three of us ordered veal piccata. I thought it was pretty good. One other scraped off sauce. Other ate with no comment. Rapini accompaniment was excellent. Potatoes blah. Not roasted. Not boiled. Just overcooked. Husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. He said it was okay.
Overall quite disappointing in the food department. Expected much much more based on trip advisor reviews.
Staff obviously eager to please but kitchen let us all down.
Won't return.

This is a casual restaurant. If you find some high end restaurants too stiff and pretentious this is a pleasant alternative. You can get an excellent meal here with the comfort of a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Came into Toronto last night from Waterloo for a concert and went to The Big Ragu for dinner based solely on Tripadvisor reviews and ratings. Everything positive written about this place is absolutely true. Great friendly service, excellent food and wine recommendations and an extremely memorable meal. The Magic Mushroom appetizer was worth the trip by itself. The next venture into Toronto for an evening out will definitely include a revisit to one of my newly found favourite restaurants.
