Description: The original jewel in the Oliver & Bonacini crown and a North Toronto icon, Auberge du Pommier has been serving guests since 1987. Constructed around the rustic vestiges of two 1860’s woodcutters’ cottages, Auberge du Pommier combines country charm with contemporary sophistication and style. Featuring wood burning fireplaces in winter and lush, floral terraces in summer, it is a welcoming, refined retreat from the city. A modern French fine dining restaurant, Auberge du Pommier exudes a quiet confidence, reflecting a commitment to culinary excellence and inspired service. The cuisine honours both the refined techniques and rustic styles of classic French fare, with an innovative North American accent. Simple yet elevated, seasonal menus focus on quality by using the finest ingredients, highlighting their natural flavours and textures and plating them elegantly. Through its appreciation of fine food and elegant presentation, its intelligent, sincere service and its French, country-inspired décor, Auberge du Pommier perfectly balances charm and sophistication, romance and refinement.

The restaurant really is stunning with attractive decor and furnishings. Five of us had dinner there last night, most having the bisque to start, which was quite good. Several of us then followed with the turbot, which really was a disappointment. We have had turbot elsewhere on many occasions and love its moist soft texture. What they served here were two rather solid flat little pieces that I would not have recognized as turbot unless I had been told. Also four of the five entrees were distinctly cool.....maybe they had been waiting for the one entree that arrived hot. Service was pleasant and attentive but at times painfully slow.
This restaurant is not inexpensive, being on a par price wise with quality restaurants in London or Paris. Unfortunately that's where the comparison ends.

Auberge hasn't failed me in the 25 years I've been coming to them for dinner. This last time for my birthday was no exception. They even surprised with seemingly larger portions than in the past. I had the frog legs which were done in a tempura batter of some sort served on an Amandine. They were smaller than I expected but made up for it in taste and quantity. I followed that up with the lamb shank which was larger than I expected but also done to perfection. My wife's meal was equally excellent, although I can't remember specifically what she had.

Really enjoyed dinner with my business partner and our wives. Found that they pushed the wine a bit too much.
