From the outside, the roast duck looked good so we went in. But when we sat down to eat, we were totally disappointed. The duck came cold and very greasy. One of us commented that they probably just gave us the leftover parts that no one wanted. The wonton soup and the baby bok choy were just okay. The men's restroom was not only dirty but had no soap and when we told the waitress she feigned interest and did nothing about it. The entire place smelled funny. Service was mediocre. Our waitress didn't smile at all and kept ignoring us when we called her. It was like she was forced to be there and was completely miserable. In hindsight, we should've given her tip directly instead of giving the entire payment to the cashier, since I can totally imagine she gets none of it and is one of the reasons why she's depressed. The restaurant smelled like the bad parts of Chinatown where you quickly have to roll your car windows up - what is that smell anyway?

I liked this place, my wife less so. Diner-like Chinese open all the time for a cheap meal. Not haute cuisine, but worth a late night visit

This is a traditional Chinese hanging meats (in the front window you will often see a whole roast pork, duck, chicken, sausages etc etc) and noodle shop, which means that you cannot expect great western-style service but you will be served quickly and without any fuss.

You can watch the cooks cook noodle soups and congees outside the restaurant since the restaurant is at a corner and has big windows surrounding the place.

My friend and I come here often for lunches and one server in particular recognizes us :). This doesn't mean we get better service - it just means she asks us where the other is if one of us eat alone (lol).

The congee (rice porridge) here is excellent. It is cooked to perfection, better than any other place in Chinatown imho. My favorite would be the 1000 year old eggs + pork congee, a traditional dish. I often get takeout of fried noodles dishes for home and their portions and prices are very reasonable. The menu has lots of items to choose from, even for the unadventurous! You will not be disappointed.

Goldstone is not fine dining. It does not excel in food, service, or decor. But it offers consistently good food for Asian patrons, staff speaks at least some English, menu is in English, they serve beer, take out is fast, and prices are reasonable. They excel in brusque, utilitarian service for mass feeding. In short, a great noodle house, like a market stall vendor, but indoors, much bigger, with bright lights.

I especially like their deep fried squid with spicy salt and pepper, their baked seafood and rice casserole, their wonton noodle soup, beef tenderloin hot plate, beef in flat rice noodles, bbq duck and roast pork. Actually, I like most of their dishes, which is why Goldstone is one of our favourites for a cheap, quick meal. Go there to be in the flow of Chinatown.

Chinese people don't eat at this place - this place is strictly for westerners.
