“Great night”
Reviewed May 27, 2014 via mobile

The service was great and the staff very attentive.
We did have to wait awhile to order drinks but we didn't mind as we were enjoying the novelty of our surroundings - the interior of the restaurant is set up as Moroccan tents with lists of plush cushions and beautiful decorations.
There were lots of items on the menu that we were unsure of but the staff were very knowledgable.
The food was delicious, full of spices and exotic flavours,as were the cocktails.
The belly dancer was impressive and was able to spend time at each table as we were there on a quiet night.
It is slightly expensive - $140 inc tip for two but you are paying for good food, good service and entertainment.
A must see in Toronto!

“Worst service I've had in my 60 years.”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

Service was horrendous and that is putting in mildly. Took them 45 minutes to fill a drink order. When we complained, a waitress came and said "but you have water". My glass had water but my sister's did not. Not the point. Waited 1 hour for food to be delivered and they missed one of the 8 people we had dining with us. It was another 1/2 hour for her order. Total time now is 1.5 hours for dinner. When dinner is brought, my "Prime Rib" is a steak with so much gristle that it was un-edible. When we received the check, which was wrong (double charged for a meal that was not ordered) we asked where the 3 deserts for 3 of the all included meals were. Again for the 4th time waiter says, "oh, they didn't bring it". Add another 45 minutes for the bill to be corrected and the deserts to be served. A 2 hour meal became a 4 hour ordeal. We spoke to the manager and he said "he would do something" HE DIDN'T do a thing and didn't return to our table. Tells you that they only want your money but not your return business. We were in the Restaurant, not the café. Will never return nor recommend this restaurant to friends. Toronto has so many fine and cheaper restaurants to have a great dinner.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

Two weeks before visiting Toronto we made a reservation at this restaurant. The pictures on the website look nice and the belly dancing made the restaurant sound like an interesting place to have a fun dinner. At noon on the day of our reservation, we were contacted by the restaurant to say that each person in our group had to spend a minimum of $55.00 each in order to keep our reservation.

We were told that this was to subsidize the cost of the belly dancer. I immediately expressed our dissatisfaction regarding this policy and also the fact that they notified us on such short notice. Their policy was not expressed during the booking of our reservation. The contact person agreed to waive the $55 pp minimum "this time".

When we arrived at the restaurant, the staff was not friendly. As we were taken to our seats, I noticed that there were several families with young children. Were they made to pay, or informed of the $55 minimum? The restaurant was not busy. The service and the food was terrible. When we got our bill, they had charged us for three (3) extra entrées totalling $70.

Our reservation was for 8:30 on a Friday night. We left at 10:15. There was no belly dancer.

“Not the place to be in Toronto”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

We were recommended to dine at The Sultans Tent by several friends.

Our visit was certainly not our idea of a great evening out as it was marred by unacceptably chaotic and poor service by staff that had not been adequately trained and lacking knowledge of the food they were serving. Having been shown to our table and provided with menus we were then abandoned by the server and had to forage for a drinks menu from an adjacent table. Once we had eventually ordered our food and wine the latter was delivered to us in a very casual manner with the bottle of fairly high priced wine almost thrown down into the cooler after pouring. No recommendations were offered – surprising as I am sure that most diners would not be familiar with Moroccan cuisine. The starters were delivered by kitchen staff who appeared to know even less about the menu than the server. One was described as eggplant and nearly rejected until I smelt that it was the fish I had ordered.

Our companions had their main course thrust at them before they or we had finished our starters. Sometime then elapsed before our chicken tagine arrived. When it did it was obvious that a side dish of rice or bread should have been recommended. By the time our request was made and the bread delivered we had finished the chicken. Subsequently our deserts were delivered to an adjacent table in error. They rejected them and it was only by some arm waving and calling we ensured that they were served to us.

We saw that other tables had similar difficulties, one couple walking out after abortive attempts to get cutlery for their main course. The food was acceptable but nothing special not Moroccan cuisine we were expecting and all marred by the appalling service. It was also concerning that the server did not bring the card machine to the table – taking the card away is a no no these days of chip and pin. This was a special family evening out and we felt let down. We all agreed not to leave a tip. The final straw that made me determined to write this review was the server who sarcastically shouted out as we left ‘thanks for the tip guys’.

The décor and belly dancing could not compensate for the deficiencies in service. Perhaps they were having a bad evening but we will not be going back.
