the worse thing about toronto is the pretention to be hip or cool, while stealing from the past and not inventing anything fresh and creative. really, it doesn't seem as if the place was cleaned after the old owner left. the silly attempt at 50's style mass produced swan flower vases in the case by the door is a bit lame. enough said on decor. the oysters were fine but not shucked clean...little irritating bits of shell hanging onto the flesh and way too many condiments were offered. the oyster should stand alone or with lemon and a wine/onion vinaigrette. a chipped enamelled serving plate was a bit off-putting. give it up and put some creative elbow grease into it. ho hum!

Even though the menu has not changed a lot in all it's years, it is still a favourite.
Small and cozy, great oysters, good portions and a small but good wine list.
Fun and romantic.

We walked to the Swan from our Mildred's trolley stop because Mildred's wasn't open, and the morning staff there recommended Swans. It was a quick walk for out-of-towners needing to stretch their legs and we were able to be seated immediately. Not only was the vintage decor pleasing, the wait staff was exceptional! Omelets with wine, salads and sandwiches...all were wonderful with fresh ingredients and pleasing tastes. Thank you for an up-scale and cozy, but not overly priced or stuffy spot to enjoy a meal with friends.
