Description: Southern Accent has been serving the most authentic and exciting Cajun and Creole food in Toronto for 34 years. Recently relocated to the exciting College and Ossington neighbourhood, join us at the bar for a Cajun Cocktail or a bourbon from our collection accompanied by the best Calamari in the city. The restaurant is a tribute to the old victorian house in the Mirvish Village location, laced with all the old quirky artwork and charms. In a hurry? No need to worry. Grab 'n' go and high end take out are available from the express area at the entrance to the restaurant!

“Great Comfort Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Big hunger definitely satisfied as portions are well sized. We ate blackened chicken, jambalaya, blackened livers and cheese grits. On the apps front, chicken livers were excellent, tender and well spiced and the cheese grits were like no other grits we have had before. Chef, I believe, double cooks/bakes them-unreal! Jambalya was very flavorful and nicely presented with good balance to tomato/rice vs broth; sausage nicely chunk'd surrounded by shrimp. Blackened chicken had some heat so not for the faint of heart with really good mashed potatos and greens. parking is a snap as there is a lot behind the restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly but a tad slow as the place was very, very busy. Ambience is ok as it is located in an old converted house (resto has been there almost 30 yrs) so dining areas essentially in a bunch of smaller adjoined rooms separated by fabrics. If you are in the mood for flavorful and spicy and definitely hungry, you can't go wrong especially at these prices-great value/quality/experience combo. PS-psychic on hand in the resto for "readings"

We’re so glad that you enjoyed your visit with us! We do cook our grits for two hours on the stovetop, and then we bake them in the oven for another hour, as we use a mature kernel corn. Sorry we were a little on the slow side – its all a part of our southern charm, haha! All kidding aside, we really appreciate your patience and understanding.

“Can't recommend highly enough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

I'm a little late with this review as our visit to Southern Accent was actually months ago whilst on holiday! However it wasn't until recently that we realised whenever we talk about times we've had amazing food, we always mention Southern Accent.
As I say the food was amazing, we both picked outside of our comfort zone and were not disappointed on any courses.
The waiter was very friendly and attentive without him becoming too involved in our night. He also recommend a cocktail to us particular to Toronto called a 'Greyhound' which we still have at home now!
The pecan pie was simply the best pecan pie either of us had even tasted. We loved Canada and this place was one of the many reasons.

“Amazing food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

6 of us went for dinner here on Saturday evening, my first time here and was amazed at how good it was. Service was prompt and friendly, as well as informative. Food was simply amazing, from the appetizers (piquante shrimp, wow), to the mains (jambalaya, blackened chicken) to the dessert's. Very reasonably priced also. I will be back for sure if I am in this neck of the woods again.

“Bordering on Amateurish”

Attended during SummerLicious, a time when this restaurant does its best to drive away customers. \crowded tables, aloof service and Hush Puppies that should have been removed by a pest control company.
