We made a reservation via e-mail a week before leaving Ottawa for our trip to Toronto. The restaurant called to confirm the reservation. Upon arrival there was no record of our reservation, but we were seated after a 15 minute wait. We had picked Rodney's because they were said to have their own oyster beds in the Maritimes. The menus arrived, actually a jumble of paper and wooden menus with no explantion of specials or details - and were disappointing for a seafood restaurant - $10 clam chowder - a cup no less, salmon, sole for fish. But, we were there for the oysters and the winkles. Surprise! No Winkles. So, we ordered three different kinds of oysters to start. Surprise! The oysters we wanted were not in stock. We inquired about the Cherrystone and the Littleneck clams. Surprise! They were all out of clams. I guess they were all in the chowder. After a brief discussion amongst ourselves, we did something I've never done before - we left the restaurant and found another restaurant nearby with actually had some food. The waiter was good about it - apologetic and didn't charge us for the beer we had just started to drink. Rodney's may be a very very good restaurant, but not having much of the food which they specialize in isn't a very good advertisement.
