“One of the Best Japanese Restaurants in TO!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

This phenomenal Japanese restaurant is easy to miss at the corner of Shaw and Bloor. Even if you do notice it, you'd probably keep on walking as it does look like a hole in the wall. The interior, as other reviewers have said, needs much TLC. BUT the food is so (consistently) good! The rice is always chewy and never mushy and the presentation of the food is impeccable. There is an impressive vegetarian menu. The food does take a longer time to arrive but it is definitely worth the wait. The elderly owners pretty much operate the place themselves (they also get temporary Japanese waitresses on visa to help out) and they are genuinely nice. I highly recommend this place. I've introduced it to all my friends and family and they all love it.

“Undiscovered (after 20 years) Gem”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

Consistently great food. Humble surroundings. If you want a good, inexpensive, authentic Japanese sushi meal then come. The owner is a delicate, humble fellow with a great knife. Perhaps is needs a dab of paint but close your eyes and taste.

“There are still secret gems in this city”
Reviewed November 20, 2011

This is a great sushi place, no one seems to know about it. Rikishi is a mom and pop Japanese restaurant that doesn't pay much attention to their decor, but they certainly do towards their food. No one really speaks english well, so ordering can take some time. The restaurant is so brightly lit it detracts substantially from the ambiance. There is this private little booth in the corner that's pretty fun, and I tend to request for it on dates. The food comes out slowly, so don't go here if you are in a rush, there's this endearing slow pace to this restaurant that enhances the dining experience.

The eel and their lightly smoked tuna are the 2 highlights on the menu, but all the fish is fresh and enjoyable.
