I was invited here for a nice girls night out dinner, and were seated at the upstairs dining room. Service was quick but impersonal and our waiter seems to change every few minutes. seemed like every time we put in an order for drinks, appies, it was a different person. The drinks were good, but the food was mediocre and a bit bland. I had the Thai salad which was ok and a good size, for the meal i had the Salmon with red and yellow potatoes which were hard and under cooked. the salmon was cooked ok but totally tasteless, no sauce, no spices, nothing. it seemed to be the case with all the dishes the table ordered as we were all asking for salt and pepper to bring our food to ilfe. I think the place has potential but they need to spruce up the menu big time. the food was nothing special and for the prices they are charging, I wont be rushing back any time soon. Atmosphere was ok, a bit stuffy, but its to expected due to the restaurant location.

Being attached to First Canadian Place, Reds has a prime location. So how come management can't get it right? They went from linen table clothes to funky metal tables of various shapes and sizes. The place is noisy as hell at times. So noisy that it is virtually impossible to have a proper business lunch.

We had a reservation for 12:15p. We were expecting to be out in about an hour. Slow service meant we were finishing up closer to 2p. I would call it slow and inattentive service. It was obvious to me that there was not enough staff and the staff that was there was new to the job.

The prices were about average as was the food.

Reds is packed with drinkers after work. The place is a hot spot for that sort of thing. If you are looking for a place to have a meaningful conversation with a business associate at lunch or dinner, look elsewhere.

I usually start a review with the positive points......in the case of this night at this restaurant there is nothing positive to say about the food, the atmosphere, or the service.

If you are going to this Reds Wine Tavern at First Canadian Place expecting the Reds Wine Bistro that occupied the same space, you will be totally & sadly disappointed. The only thing that appears to be the same, is the address, the furniture & a similar name.

About a week ago I went online to try to make a reservation for 8 people for 7p.m. Friday January 2/14. System said party was too big to make an online reservation, call the restaurant. I did & spoke to a lady, who confirmed the reservation & to whom I gave both my cell# & email address. Her parting comments to me were that because the party was larger than 6 there would be a mandatory 18% gratuity added to the bill. Not a surprise. If only the evening warranted an18% gratuity.

Understand that this restaurant has a downstairs bar/tavern & an upstairs dining room. Not too many people call a week in advance to a bar/tavern for reservations. We arrived expecting to be seated in the dining room, only to be told by our waitress that business was so slow,( I now understand why business is slow,) they only had two reservations for the dining room, so "management" decided to close the dining room for the day, but didn't bother to inform those who made reservations of this change. Strike 1.

So instead of sitting on chairs in a quite dining room, we are sitting on high bar chairs & a banquette, listening to 8 beer-swilling clowns 2 tables away, trying to out belch each other. Strike 2

Upon noting my displeasure our waitress had manager "Sean" come over, I indicated I was annoyed( I actually convinced the group to come here instead of another restaurant.Fool me.). He apologized. I said they could have contacted us & let us know the dining room was closed & we would have had a choice of knowing what we were in for, or cancelling the reservation. He said he would take something off the bill, without being specific.

A round of cocktails was ordered. I asked for a dry gin martini, on the rocks, in a rocks glass, extra olives.I was delivered a vodka martini, straight-up, in a martini glass, with olives. Not earth shattering, but indicative of the poor service levels to follow.Strike 3

We ordered appetizers. Two of us had calimari. There are two ways to cook calimari, very quickly or very slowly.....incinerated in the deep fryer is not an option, although I guess the cook thought so. One of our party ordered a bowl of mushroom soup, another a cup of seafood chowder, what was delivered was a cup of mushroom soup & a bowl of seafood chowder...back to the kitchen. My sister ordered a half-dozen oysters, she was sitting at the far end of the table from the server, rather than the server walking to the right end of the table & placing the order in front of my sister, we were asked to pass it down four people.Strikes 4,5 & 6.

We ordered two bottles of Spanish Priorat, $80/bottle.(Wine not available at the LCBO.Several of us where in the Priorat last October. This wine can't be more than $25.00/ bottle landed & duties paid in Ontario.Nice markup!)

One had ciopino, tasty, but a little light on the seafood content. Another had "Grilled Cheese Redux"( a $14.00 grilled cheese sandwich) & commented "a well grilled Velveeta on Wonder Bread would have been more flavourful".Two of the party had Steak Frites. The frites were so under cooked & limp, they could have used a shot of Viagra. Strike? We stopped counting long ago.

One of the two said her steak tasted a) like liver, indicative of beef either being too cold when placed on the grill or else poorly aged beef and b) like it had been cooked on a dirty grill ( the person making the comments knows her way around commercial kitchens).

Five of our party of 7 were served their main course, took several minutes for the other two diners to be served.

How much abuse do diners have to take?

When dinner was over we passed on coffee & dessert. Only 3 dessert options, 2 contain nuts. Couldn't get out of this place fast enough. We were billed just over $550.00 for 7 cocktails, 7 appetizers, 7 mains, including $160.00 for wine, less of course the managers big-hearted rebate, $29.00,the cost of three appetizers.

This place is trying to be a glorified pub, with pretences. Why have a $400 bottle of wine on the wine list when there isn't a meal on the menu that is close to being good enough to match with that wine?

Bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere......a corporate restaurant run by MBAs & bean counters, who sit on their taste buds, dozens of miles away from where the food hits the plate, & who clearly don't give a flying "fajita" about their guests.

Location was great and the atmosphere just ok. Service was so so only the server didn't pay attention to menu. I had order the wine from the list but she bring over to table with different vintage as list describe and I did refuse the bottle and the supervisor offer me another type of wine with free tasting but gosh...is vinegar and I was told that the bottle was open yesterday and after I said is vinegar and she change the statement was actually opened 3 days ago....so confuse. I ended up order the wine they have on the rack not the list cause a lots of cross from the list, what is the point of having a wine list with no update? Three of us just order a rib eye steak and it was alright.

The place was quite busy; the service hard to find; the fish curry -- ostensibly a house specialty -- was emaciated, pretty standard-tasting. I didn't really expect much from a place under a massive skyscraper filled with busy bankers on expense accounts. And I was disappointed only about as much as I expected.
