There has been much discussion as to which Toronto Restaurant serves the best fish 'n' chips',
My personal favourite is The Olde York on Laird.
This is very much a family run concern. Peter, the owner is from Yorkshire, and knows his stuff. There are a variety of fish from which to choose and none has ever been disappointing. The chips are also excellent. There is a good design with a friendly bar and attractive dining room. The servers, many of whom have been there for ages, are attentive and efficient.
Rave on Peter!

Went here at about 1:30 on a Saturday. Waited about ten minutes. Food was good. Ordered the lunch special which was fish and chips. Tasty but not a whole lot of food. I am pretty petite (5'3", 120 lbs) and was still hungry. However, my kids (6 & 8) shared a standard fish and chips and this was a good amount of food for them. If I went again, even at lunch, would order the full dish. Restaurant was clean and wait staff were helpful. Kids LOVED their fish and chips.

have been in several times before - and it's been a while since the previous time.
order cod / halibut / haddock - your preference. the batter is perfect, perfectly cooked, not greasy at all when you cut into it. and they will happily substitute a salad instead of the fries (although the fries are also excellent, if you can take the calories).
and wash it down with a great choice of beers.
once you've had their fish, it will be very tough to find a place which can even compare with the quality and taste (and lack of grease).
as noted by others, you will likely have to wait to get in. you know they're doing everything right when it's this crowded.

The restaurant usually has lineups(depends when you go). Also, depending when you go-you can wait in line for a long time. But, the is worth the wait.
The staff does come and take your name so that no one can say that they were already there.
I would say that we waited at least 30 minutes.
The food was excellent.
The staff is always very pleasant.
The only negative was a bunch of people(3 older couples). Two of the men were acting like complete idiots. But that has nothing to do with the restaurant. It was just not good for anyone that was there for a meal out. They had to put up with the yahoos.
Tip: Do not go on a Friday or Saturday night without expecting to wait at least 1/2 hour.

have been trying all sorts of fish and chips restaurant but this is the real deal. Have recommended it to so many friends and have made the same oustanding remark. Try the sea food plater and if you have a partner, let him or her just order the extra fish (no more chips). It's worth it.
