“Terrific food, service and atmosphere”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Mildred's Temple. The staff made us feel very welcome and made a fuss about the fact it was our anniversary. The Tasting Menu for 4 was pre-set and every course was excellent. Started with Italian Bread Soup which reminded me of French onion soup. Each person received a bowl with a few shavings of parmisagn cheese and a few croutons at the bottom. The waitress ladled in a clear broth that had a wonderful rich beef flavour. This was followed by 3 different appetizers. Gnocchi poutine, shrimp and crab cakes in a spicy coconut sauce, and a caesar salad bowl. Each was terrific. But the shrimp/crab cakes were to die for. The main course included sliced grilled strip loin steak drizzled with balsamic vinegar glaze and caramelized onions and organic pan-roasted Irish salmon. Both were perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. These came with side dishes of buttered beans and garlic mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were amazing. By this time we were all stuffed. But dessert was still to follow. It was a tasting platter of homemade desserts and fair-trade coffee. They had taken 2 profiteroles from the sample plate and written out Happy Anniversary on a separate plate for my wife and me. We brought a couple of nice old red Burgundies from my cellar for which they charged a $25 per bottle corkage. Very reasonable in downtown Toronto. Took our 19 year old daughter and 24 year old son with us. They both described it as one of the best meals they've ever had at a restaurant. Mildred's isn't inexpensive. But it's worth it.

“We are Regulars with Good Reason”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

My husband and I celebrate most special occasions at Mildred's; we also take family and friends there as well.
The restaurant has a very stylish and contemporary look which can be enjoyed morning or night. At brunch and lunch, the room is very bright and cheerful because of floor to high-ceiling windows. At dinner, the lights are dimmed for a more intimate feel. A movie plays in the bar area (last night it was Coraline), making for a "mod", almost eccentric effect.
We have always found the food to be excellent: Chef Taylor is an artist both in terms of taste and presentation. Last night three of us shared gnocci poutine, ricotta gnudi, octopus with sausage, curried cauliflower, a burger, and the lamb special. Everything impressed in every way.
We have always found service to be excellent, which is one of the reasons that we are regulars. Jenny, Riley, and Mia are wonderful; Micalah, the manager, always ensures that the meal is enjoyable (although we do also miss Rory and Natalie, who were also great managers).
The prices, including those of wines, are reasonable; we are always able to find a pleasant wine at an affordable price.
Although we have been dining at Mildred's for years, I am only reviewing it now because, frankly, we did not want the restaurant to become too popular. Alas, from the difficulty that we have had getting a last minute reservation, the secret is clearly out. And credit is deserved where it is due.

Some fairly classic dishes with some really yummy twists! The burger is super tasty, the gnocchi poutine is also stellar.
