Description: Le Papillon on Front is located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. Inside of a beautiful Old Town Toronto building with exposed brick walls and high lofty ceilings sits the beautiful venue for Le Papillon on Front. It's exposed brick is complemented well by the aged hardwood floor and perfectly soft lighting. The venue suggests a lovely mix of romance, comfort, and of course, the classic French bistro atmosphere that has followed Le Papillon to all of its locations. In the warmer months Le Papillon on Front even creeps its way onto Front street, giving a beautiful view of the Flatiron building as well as the CN tower in the distance. With a closed in patio adorned with wonderfully arranged planters you experience a private feel, even while sitting on the heart of Front Street.

“Great groupon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

Groupon occasionally has a promotion for this long time favourite. If you are lucky enough to come across one you will not be disappointed. Even without a groupon it is still a good restaurant and has a lovely french onion soup. I had the duck as an entree which I found not be very good.

“Wonderful Crepes & Tourtiere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

This is one of our favourite supper spots downtown. The French Onion soup is excellent, with just the right amount of cheese. We usually get the St Lawrence crepe, named for the famous market at the end of the block, and they always happily agree to substitute ham for bacon. We also love the Tourtier, but be sure to order a side of real maple syrup for a decadent taste treat. Okay I will be honest, we usually order two and use one on the crepe as well. Most of the servers we have had are from France, which lends additional authenticity to the experience. There was a large group nearby and they all seemed to be having a great time too. Just don't drop by on a Monday, like we did recently, as they are not open. A wonderful French dining experience every time, but never, never on a Monday!

“Terrible food. Friendly and courteous service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2014

Our visit to this restaurant was a major disappointment. The soups (carrot/ ginger and French Onion) were fairly good. However this did not apply to the rest of the meal. The Tourtiere was vey bland and dry. It could t\really have used gravy, unfortunately it came with a tiny container of tomato chutney. The crepe Bourguignon had a dry hard shell that was stuck to the plate. The desserts added to the disappointment. The apple crumble was so overcooked that it was like mush. The banana crepe again had a hard dry shell. We had to ask for a knife, as no fork could go through the hard shell. The service was excellent.

Hello,

My apologies on your disappointing visit to our establishment. I was quite surprised to hear how displeased you were with the food here. Our Onion Soup has been named some of the best in the city and has been a long time favourite and staple of our menu so I do really hope that it was a little bit better than fairly good, but understandable that it may have been soured by the quality of the rest of the dishes. I went back after reading this review to find your table (compared your dishes with each bill from that evening) and immediately spoke with your server, who mentioned after doing his quality check you said everything was "fine." If the dishes were anything less than excellent we strongly encourage our guests to let us know so we can rectify the problem and avoid a repeat of this issue. Unfortunately since you did not mention this at the time of the meal there was nothing we could do to make sure your evening was salvaged. Being a very big personal fan of our Tortiere, I can only assume there was a problem with preparation and it was underspiced because what you describe is nothing like how our Tortiere is regularly served. Again unfortunately if this was mentioned we could have caught the problem stopping anyone else from receiving a dish that did not meet the quality standards we set here. Also the Tomato Apple chutney has said to be a delicious pairing with the Tortiere but I understand if gravy is more up your alley, unfortunately we do not serve that here with that dish. Again if the crepes were too hard and overcooked we would have been happy to replace them and that also goes for the crumble. I am, however, very happy to hear the service was up to the level we expect here. As an independent business we rely on providing top of the line quality food and striving for excellent customer satisfaction to survive and clearly that was not the case this time. We also pride ourselves in being understanding when a guest is unsatisfied and doing everything we can at the time to fix it. Unfortunately, without notice of your dissatisfaction we could not correct any of it. I implore you, please next time wherever you may be, notify the management or your server of the issues experienced as you may be surprised on how far they will go to correct the problems.

Sincerely,

Sean

“A warm and friendly restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

I stopped in on a Saturday night without a reservation on the off chance that they would have an available table. They were fully booked but made room for us at a communal bench. They also apologized for not having a table but of course there was no reason that they should. But it did make us feel welcome. The service throughout was efficient and helpful. I won't say it was absolutely the best meal I have ever had but it was certainly very good and I would return the next time I found myself in Toronto. Don't know what some people expect but given the ambiance and food, all but the perpetually disgruntled should enjoy a very pleasant night out.

“A Fantastic French restaurant, without the 4 hour service time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

Tried this restaurant for the first time with a Buytopia offer, and OMG the food was amazing.
The restaurant has classic old world charm with the brick walls, high ceilings, and the ambiance is very nice.

The salad was terrific, the French onion soup was the best we have ever had, and the duck confit was amazing, wish I could have had another one.

And the desserts were excellent as well.

Would highly recommend to anyone, and we will definently be going back to experience other items on their extensive menu!!!
