Donatello is on a quiet street however right in the center of downtown Toronto, less than 5 mins walk from Dundas sq.
Donatello was my wife and mine favorite restaurant when we were lived in TO. The food, ambiance and service are excellent. Out favorites are the gnocchi and ravioli pastas especially with the rose sauce.

Everytime I visit Toronto Donatello is on the top of the list.

Six of us had dinner here on a Saturday night. It was busy, but we had a reservation so were seated promptly upstairs. The restaurant is more spacious than it appears since it is a narrow but deep building with two floors. I ordered the half Caesar salad, veal chop and tiramisu. The entire meal was excellent. The veal chop was cooked to order and the half portion of salad was plenty. The other guests ordered veal Marsala, scallops and shrimp and various pasta dishes. Everyone had an excellent meal. The service was prompt and friendly and the waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and wines and was willing to modify orders to ensure everyone was satisfied with their meal, e.g. no mushrooms. Donatello is not Toronto's cheapest Italian restaurant, however, I believe you get what you pay for here. We will be back.

Everything about this restaurant, besides the outdoor decor, was just OKAY. When walking up to the building my husband and I both thought we were in for a treat. The building just looked cool and quaint.

Once we got in, everything was average. This includes the food, service, ambiance.

We would not return.

Four of us chose to dine at Donatello's because of its easily accessible location and past reviews. We had excellent service, an excellent choice in wines and excellent food. The Veal Marsala and Veal Piccata were delicious - tender and seasoned just right. The portions were generous enough and we were able to share two salads without difficulty. The staff divided the salads onto individual plates rather than leaving us to struggle as often happens in other restaurants when sharing a dish. The only reason we did not give the restaurant a five-star rating is because of the noise. It is a small, intimate room that seems ideal for private conversation but unfortunately it was very noisy and too easy to hear the conversation from neighboring tables. It is possible to control accoustics through interior design. Otherwise, we would certainly return.
