We had a business and pleasure dinner, with Singpore clients. Rave reviews all around. Superb food and perfect service. One of our all-time best dining experiences.

When visiting Toronto we were excited to finally get a chance to eat at Canoe. Although the ambiance was great I would have to say we expecting a much better meal. It was good but nothing was great. Our desert was old tasting and rubbery so we actually sent it back. We made another choice which was better but still...not something I would expect from a restaurant with this reputation. So sadly, next we visit Toronto I doubt we would go back.

My husband and I made a reservation at Canoe for 8 p.m. It was our anniversary and a Monday night. When we arrived we were shown to a tiny table on the elevated section which sided onto the waitstaff station in front of the kitchen. We asked if we could have another table as this was obviously the worst table in the restaurant and would not offer us the opportunity of a quiet, romantic dinner that we had anticipated. We sipped on our cocktails as we waited at the bar. The young woman returned and informed us that a couple of tables were opening up and it should be around ten minutes or so. Around half an hour later, an assistant manager came over, Mickey, and told us that a few tables were coming up and it wouldn't be too long. We did notice that other groups were being seated. There was some sort of corporate affair going on and these convention goers were being well looked after. At around 9 we were feeling neglected and frustrated. By 9:15 we had decided to forego Canoe and try and find somewhere else to enjoy our anniversary dinner, so we left. As we waited for the elevator the manager came running over to give us his card, not sure exactly why, and apologized. They prioritized one-off parties instead of us and I guess if you are part of a corporate crowd this is the place for you. But a special occasion dinner celebration, maybe not. We have been to Canoe many times over the past 16 years or so (not summer or winterlicious but at full pop) but will not return. We ended up having a wonderful and delicious meal at Modus instead.

Canoe is set on a high-rise building in downtown Toronto. The setting is elegant yet sober. The service is excellent as is the menu selections for food and drinks.

The atmosphere and the view here is exceptional and ideal for a romantic meal. What let the place down on my visit was the food and you expect better for the price you're paying. For the main meal I had the pork which was probably 80% fat. You expect better from a place like Canoe and for the chefs to be able to recognise things like that.
