I've been a Volo patron for more than ten years. I've seen it evolve over the years, through some good and bad changes. The transition from Italian eatery to beer specialty is a good one. The beer selection is astounding, but the self-serve approach leaves a lot to be desired, especially due to long waits...reminiscent of pubs in England. But, wait, the name is Cafe Volo...that's not a pub name, is it...!!

I fell in love with this place as soon as I walked int he door. Large wooden tables that leave a generous amount of room for a party of 4 and you can just as easily sqeeze in 6 or 7 at a table. The one wall has all of the beers on tap based on an alphabet system whereby each beer is assigned a letter A through Z and the taps are labelled with all of the letters. Makes ordering very easy. They also have several imported beers that are in bottles and the price trange seemed to be anywhere from $7 to $50+ for a bottle (larger 750ml+ bottles were the more expensive ones). A word of caution for the lazy - you need to go to the bar to order your food and drinks as there aren't any servers to bring them to your seat...only the food is brought to your seat. I was generous the rating for service, but the staff were friendly and knowledgable of the brews, so I honestly can't fault them for this.

Porter, IPA, saison, double, tripple, weisse...the variety goes on and on and if you enjoy beer and can't find something you like, there is something seriously wrong with you.

The food - slection is limited as the focus is on beer, but the burgers we had were absolutely OUTSTANDING and they came with a side of potato chips and a pickle. The sausages were apparently also good and had a nice spice to them. I would like to go back and try some of the charcuterie.

The only negative (which is also a positive) is the cozy atmosphere. seating is limited and people stand at the bar when there aren't seats or in the walkway which makes it a little annoying to push your way through when you want to get a drink and then carry the drink back to your seat. A very minor irritation in the grand scheme of things.

If you are in the Yonge and Bloor area this is about a 5-10 minute walk south on Yonge. I would highly recommend this place and will definately be going back again and probably in the summer to enjoy the patio.

This Place is wonderful, huge beer selection and really great beer, best place for beer lovers... if you dare to try new things.
Is very nice and cozy, great atmosphere and service is nice, mostly self service but people is helpful and kind. There is just a few bites to eat but I recommend the cured meat table, is a good selection of artisan local meats, with all the fat you need to enjoy the higher alcohol beers on tap.

Favorite beer spot in Toronto, highly recommended.

Love this place--the atmosphere, selection, and great people watching out on the patio. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the beer offerings and made great suggestions for what I was looking for. If you are a beer lover, this place is for you.
