On my last trip to Toronto, a friend of mine and I went to Epic at the Fairmont Royal York for dinner. We booked the prix fare Winterlicious menu for $45 + tax and tip.
When we finally arrived at the Fairmont Royal York, we stumbled upon Epic. The decor and atmosphere seems old world as if the hotel hadn't been updated in ages but the food certainly has been. This weird vibe is tough to get past at first. This restaurant doesn't seem to belong here.
Once we were seated, the waiters dropped by and greeted us quickly. In no time flat, we were given our menus and service started.
Both of us went with the Short Rib main, Scallop App and delicious light dessert. They were delivered promptly and efficiently. Each time prepared properly.
Given the prices, we were happy with what we had. Looking at the regular menu, the prices are much steeper and I'm not sure it's worth that. At nearly $60-$75 a person + drinks on the regular menu, I would expect the food to be a lot better than it was. That's not to say what I had was terrible. It was delicious but that was 3 menu items for $45.
Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Epic.
