Bravi has become over the years a reliable and trusted restaurant in Toronto. We usually go there before the theatre so we appreciate service that is efficient, helpful and insightful. However, the food is the real draw. Last night our party started with calamari, the romaine salad and the special soup- made even more "special" by limiting-by request- one of the elements. My husband reported that sopa di pesci to be delicious. The romaine salad with sun-dried tomatoes had the right amount of dressing so that it was not overwhelmed by too much dressing- a problem in most restaurants. If the appetizers were very good, the mains were outstanding. I ordered the risotto with duck and sour cherries, one element of the several well chosen ingredients to bring together the rice and duck among the many. The broth was exquisite and the tastes of each ingredient were recognizable, exploding with flavour yet adding to the overall taste of a well prepared risotto. The duck had been prepared separately so there were several individual pieces that again melded into the taste. I ate very slowly to savour each bite. I noted there was another risotto with sausage and again an interesting blend of ingredients that would set off the dish. At the table two others ordered frutti di mare that consisted of scallops and shrimp. Again, it was pronounced excellent. The fourth of our group ordered the special which was a pheasant. And yet again, the entree looked and tasted as if it had been carefully created by a thoughtful chef who knew how to complement the look with a great taste. A lovely gelato with aged balsamic vinegar completed a great meal. we did not have to ask repeatedly for the bill and there was no rush for the theatre. We really enjoyed our meal and look forward to an opportunity to return. We highly recommend Bravi.
