We stayed at the Super 8 chinatown for 2 weeks from Feb. 11-Feb. 25 for business. We were put up here for work and hadn't chosen the place ourselves. The hotel itself is in a great location, near lots of restaurants and some shopping, although it is strange if you are staying in one of the rooms over looking the interior of the shopping center. We were lucky to have our room facing the city view.
Check in was fast, we had a vehicle and had to pay parking which came to a whopping 300$ for two weeks. ouch. But this is downtown Toronto, so good luck finding anything cheap. There are two entrances to the parking, one accessible by cameron st, the other directly on Spadina. The hotel parking itself is located on P3 of the parking garage, and the parking gates are shut as of 12am, so you need your access card to get in.
The hotel has 2 vending machines on the main lobby floor, one with drinks, one with snacks, as well as an ice machine.
The room itself was a good size, the pillows were large and comfortable. There was some questionable dark patches on the ceiling throughout our room 8507, as well as in the hallway leading up to it that makes me think at one time the sprinklers went off, or they're leaking. Our room had a microwave and mini fridge. emphasis on mini. We barely spent time in our room, only to shower, sleep and sometimes eat.
There is a great all you can eat sushi restaurant across the street that we ended up going to twice. 18$ for all you can eat sushi, sashimi, tempura, .....! and tasty too!
We ordered pizza from Amato's pizza. It was vile. A thin crust, undercooked with a uniform color of toppings, each one indistinguishable.
Heros burgers a little ways down spadina was ok, if a bit overpriced but it is the only other option than mcdonalds if you're looking for something available very late.
Shwarma place near hero's was good, although much different from Montreal's version of shish taouk.
There is also a dollarama within walking distance that was convenient for snacks, toothpaste, ect...
The breakfast offered at the hotel was adequate, the older lady there on the weekends was a sweetheart! there were muffins, cereal, toast, english muffins, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, fruits (sometimes) coffee, juice and tea.
During the weekends, this hotel transforms into a bit of a party hotel with lots of drunk young people, but none of that ever bothered us and we never had any noise complaints.
THE ELEVATOR FROM HELL
There's no other way to put it. If you park in the parking garage, you will most likely have to take 2 elevators. One from the garage to the lobby, and another from the lobby to floors 84 & 85. The elevators are SLOW, they make noise and are just all in all a little sketchy. One was down for a good few days.
Would I go back? Loved the location, the hotel is what it is. I know it's not some fancy or even somewhat fancy hotel but it did the job. I would definitely go back for it's proximity to everything!
