Super 8 Downtown Toronto
Ranked #61 of 137 Hotels in Toronto

The hotel is located on the 3rd to 5th floor in a mall, and is near the center of Toronto ChinaTown. So it is quite convenient if you plan to enjoy an Asian style lunch or dinner, either Chinese or Vietnamese.

The rooms are not big and the window of our room opens to the center of the mall, so we have to close the curtain always.

The choice of breakfast is very limited.

The staff at the counter is quite helpful.

On arriving at the hotel reception we found the staff were very friendly, we asked for a room overlooking spading avenue but were told all the rooms were fully booked . The room we were allocated over looked the Chinese shopping mall which was indoors the view from our bedroom window looked straight into it we were on the 3rd floor so looking down into the mall, there was a Chinese festival on at this time a lot of music & dancing going on which we found was quite amusing all said and done the mall shuts at 9pm & a decent nights sleep follows breakfast is is continental which is served between 6 till 10, the rooms were cleaned daily fresh towels could not ask for a better service overall a great place 2 stay

We had our weekended planned out. First vacation w/o kids in years. We arrive at the hotel about 2:50pm (check in is at 3pm). We had walked from Union Station/CN Tower doing some sight seeing & grabbing some food. But at this point we were beat and ready for a quick nap and freshen up to go explore Chinatown and other areas.

We arrived at the desk and I saw several guests in the area sitting on the floor/couches, etc. We went to check in and they said 'your room isn't ready'. We waited over an hour to check in and finally got to our room at 4pm. The staff at the front desk needs a little retraining on customer service and the art of smiling :)

We get to our room and notice our room (a jacuzzi suite) is directly across the hallway from this little bar thing they have. This was a disappointment. We were thinking we have a jacuzzi suite and are on vacation. Figure it out what was going to happen. To make it worse, we finally got in the jacuzzi and we couldn't get the bubbles/jet stream to work. I got dressed and went to front desk because they didn't answer the phone. The guy explained how to do it. He offered to come down and help. However, I had to stop him as it wasn't the right time for staff in the room.

Another bad thing that happened was our room faced the roof of the building. The roof was covered with rocks and there was a lot of debris, trash, toys, etc. We were half asleep and noticed that there were 2 little girls playing outside our window. They must have went to the window of the next room because we heard someone pound on the window and they girls ran. They got up on a ledge and we thought they may fall over. We freaked out and I was ready to go out the front door to the front desk. Not just for the inconvenience but for their safety.
My wife noticed a few adults across the roof waiving them back. Not sure why or how they got up there but very dangerous and inappropriate.

There were a few good things about the place:

We liked having the microwave and little fridge in our room. That was a nice feature.

Finally got hot tub to work. We noticed it wasn't as clean as it could have been.

The next day we were leaving room about 11:20am (not sure why check out is 11am?) and we requested a late check out. House keeping was rude at 11:10 saying we had to go. I asked the front desk (different staff now - a nice 20 something girl) if they could store our suitcase while we went out to see the town. Very helpful. Even called us a cab when it was time to leave to head near the main airport.

Overall wouldn't stay here again (even for free). I understand most hotels are franchise but Super 8 needs to do some research on this one. Have a higher up stay the night and experience first hand what customers do. If higher ups at Super 8/Wyndham knew how this was run, wouldn't be surprised if they pulled their franchise agreement.

Room Tip: Don't use this hotel

I had read reviews about the hotel so had a idea how it was going to be, we arrived and was given our room key quickly I asked for a room looking over spandina ave but was told the hotel was full I know then we would be looking into the shopping mall and we were it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, there was a festival at the weekend so it was a little noisy
The rooms are ok not massive but big enough, free safe which is fab and free air con if you need it, the bathroom is clean and shower Is nice, they came in every day and clean them and changed towels if needed.
The breakfast is a little kaois but the lady who runs the breakfast doesn't stand any nonsense nobody gets in her way.
The hotel is central located for most things
It does what it says on the tin.

It was much better than we expected. We really liked our king room with a hot tub. It was very spacious, clean, and quiet. The location is excellent, near the art gallery and not too far from Eaton Center and the rest of downtown. It is right in the middle of China Town, so it's another interesting experience. I would definitely recommend it. If you pay right away without the possibility of cancelation, you get a discounted price. It was worth it. Would go back there.

I have spent a whole lot more for a whole lot less. My room was very clean and quiet, fantastic bang for the buck. Two minutes from Kensinton Market, two seconds from China Town. I'd be happy to return. Service was friendly and very helpful. Easy streetcar access too. Not honeymoon material but great for a business trip.

We stayed at the Super 8 for 3 nights this past week. What a deal to be right in the city of Toronto and not pay the super high prices at hotels in the same vicinity. Our room was clean. We had a wonderful view on Spadina Ave. You could see the CN Tower with its glittering lights at night. The room was nice and clean. It was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. There was a computer in the lobby. They serve breakfast. It's right in the heart of Chinatown. What a great location. We took a 20 minute walk to the Rogers Centre to watch the Orioles and Blue Jays play. We got passes for a double decker tour bus, which saved us some money. You could hop on and hop off. We liked the fact that you parked your car in the garagae and only paid $10 a day. There are so many places to visit in this great city that we didn't have time for that we plan on coming back, and will certainly stay at this Super8 hotel again.

Room Tip: Get a room looking out on Spadina Ave.
