Description: Buca Osteria Enoteca is an Italian restaurant from the King Street Food Company (Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse and The Saint Tavern). The menu aims to combine the ingredient specificity of rustic Italian cuisine with the culinary finesse of fine dining, building recipes around fresh and seasonal produce, but using a number of classical culinary techniques as well. The beautiful and understated main dining room has soaring high ceilings, exposed raw brick, and iron beams - using the natural elements of the heritage building. Towards the back, beyond the open curing room, a smaller wine bar, the Enoteca, is sleek and private.

We had two fabulous breakfast experiences at Bar Buca recently. The first time we had the 8-10am menu that we were happy with and again after 10am for the more substantial regular breakfast/brunch selections that didn't disappoint. Sit at the bar and watch the kitchen staff work their magic. Leave room for the amazing made-in-house desserts crafted by the skilled pastry chefs. Can't wait to return!

Intestines, blood and offal - those were the choices offered with the pastas. Not to mention lamb's brains for appetizers. There must be many diners out there much for adventurous than us for this restaurant to have such good reviews.

There are three main seating areas, one outside, one bright and airy one at the bottom of the stairs and one dark and dank one which is down a dark hallway. We had a reservation and arrived when the place was not full so why were we escorted to the dark and dank one? Maybe because we did not fit the twenty to thirty something profile of the rest of the clientele? The service was atrocious - no offers of a second drink once our empty glasses were whisked away, long waits between courses and transparent attempts to push the $130 steak.

My husband ordered the charcuterie platter which was just meat - bread to accompany it was an extra $5 and very bad bread it was. Three little pieces and a couple of bread sticks nestled in a basket - most could have been used for doorstops.

We were so unhappy with our experience, we didn't even bother to look at the dessert menu or have a coffee. It would have been interesting to see if they could word some kind of innards into the sweet course. To top off our terrible evening at Buca, my husband spent the night throwing up all the delights that he had consumed there.

If you want a great Italian meal, try Enoteca Sociale or Campagnolo both of which I have reviewed recently. Stay away from this pretentious, overpriced nightmare of a restaurant.

No menu on the door, so we stumbled inside and tried to find something to eat. It wasn't easy. I can appreciate that the menu appeals to carnivores, but if you are a vegetarian there is virtually nothing on offer. Most dishes that potentially could be vegetarian or pescatarian options also are designed to include meat, sometimes of a bizarre nature. So salads might include duck hearts (!), and other meals intestines or sheep brains (have you ever heard of Scrapie by the way?).

So if you are a carnivore who revels in offal, this is a wonderful place. If you are vegetarian or just want a simple fish dish - avoid.

We live in Toronto and this is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. We've been there several times and the food and service is consistently excellent. We always look forward to a meal at Buca.
