I have traveled to different parts of India and eaten everything from street food to gas station communal fare to some of the finest restos India has to offer. I am also a longtime fan of the award-winning Vij's Indian restaurant in Vancouver. I have dined at Pukka 5 times since it opened and each time it has exceeded my expectations. The owners; Harsh and Derek bring a combination of wine knowledge (Derek is a sommelier) and Indian culture (Harsh's native India) combined with first-class customer service and engaging personalities. The room is intimate but not confining, warm but lively. The cocktails are creative, the wine list is well balanced with a nod to local, value and of course well suited to the incredible food! We adore the Kale salad - a welcome and rare fresh item on an Indian menu. The Chicken 65, boatmans fish curry, Beef ribs, french beans and lamb lollipops are favourites for me and my wife. Our fussy daughters LOVE the perfectly balanced butter chicken - one of the best ever. I highly recommend an evening out to Pukka with a special partner, kids or a group of friends!

We ate here for my birthday celebration and I was totally happy . I live Indian cuisine, read about this resto and felt it would be a different experienced, it was! We started with Pagoras and samosas and even if theses are common choices, there was nothing common about the vegetable choice in the samosa and the taste and presentation of the Pagoras. Exquisite! We asked for spicy and we got it. We then had 2 of the Fish curry dishes, rice, naan bread , an okra dish and a lentils dish. It was served family style so we ate what we wanted and how much we wanted. In the end, we took home a nicely packaged 'doggy bag' which we ate for lunch the next day- again delish! Plus, service was great and friendly. You have to try this resto, it it really very good and I am a very picky but experienced diner. You won't be sorry!

My husband and I tried Pukka for the first time last night and had a wonderful experience! The food is delicious, the décor is funky and modern, and co-owners Harsh and Derek are charming.
The menu is divided into “snacks” (appetizers), “eats” (main dishes) and sides, and is designed for sharing. To start, we had the butternut squash samosas – delicious and melt in your mouth – the goat cheese-stuffed lamb kebabs – extremely flavorful- and the Tandoori chicken tikka – the chicken was moist and the spices were fabulous. For the main course, we had chicken curry, which included small chunks of ginger – really delicious – French beans with garlic and coconut, and the spinach and mushroom-stuffed paneer, which had a creamy pistachio sauce. We topped it off with the Baath cake for dessert, which was a great way to finish the evening.
Each dish had an exciting new flavor - not entirely classic Indian - which we found interesting. The wine list has a lot of excellent choices, all at affordable prices. A great evening -we can’t wait to go back!

We only had three dishes between the two of us which, with basmati rice and naan, was sufficient.
Our mains were butter chicken; rich, mild and plenty of sauce and lamb shank; darker and warming. Our side was winter greens with paneer (small slices of cheese), a flavourful compliment. Glancing at other diner's plates, they looked of similar high quality. See website for full menu.
My cocktail was not well executed, so skip those, but the wine list was good and I had a glass of excellent Cotes du Rhone.
Service was fast and professional. Ambience open and light.
Reckon on $35 or more per head including wine and tip.
Overall this restaurant is worth a detour.
