our stay was overall excellent. the room we stayed in was on the small side, but the room and the entire hotel was just full of character. the artwork displayed everywhere makes staying there an event in itself. the location is also very good, with many options for eating and drinking in the area. there is a street car and bus stops right outside it. the staff were very helpful. it doesn't get 5 stars because the AC was REALLY noisy - it rumbles into life and just vibrates the entire time it's on. it was hot when we were in Toronto and we couldn't sleep without it, though out sleep with it on wasn't much better. really, it was a bit miserable at night.
pros: location, artwork, morning coffee (delicious and free)
cons: noisy AC, tiny (i mean 1 meter square) shower

Room Tip: go when it's cool to avoid using the AC

Angled old wood floors, large halls filled with turn of the 20th Century millwork and an elevator to match. The staff here are always at your beckoning call and happy to be so. Although our room was small it was comfortable. The Hotel is in a real trendy neighborhood and fun to walk around and explore fashion and food.

I recently stayed here with my 15year old niece. We both loved it! The art work, elevator, location were all awesome! I parked down the street & was able to see some of the neighborhood...& felt really safe & very hip. The shower was a little small, but seriously all anyone needs is that wonderful soap & a bucket. Great stay

Very hip hotel and scene with NO attitude. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast food was delicious, especially the pancake with maple butter. Cocktails were original and delicious. The hotel offers free use of their 2 bicycles on a first-come-first serve basis, including locks, helmets, and lunch bags. Each room is uniquely decorated and there are art exhibits on each floor. Lots of things go on in the lobby bars - music, films, dances, art events. The rooms are quite small, but comfortable -best mattress of anywhere we stayed in Canada. The shower stall was quite snug. If you are a big person, this is not the place to stay. WiFi didn't work well on the 4th floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a large bathroom.

We recently stayed at the Gladstone Hotel, due to it's proximity to an event we were attending. What we found out is that we didn't need to even leave the hotel, it is it's own event....Every room is designed and themed by a local artesian, very cool how they reclaimed this old building and brought it back to life. It has an old style elevator and awesome décor....Bed was fantastic too. The hotel had a live band when we returned from our event, the place was packed.....so be warned, if you want a quite time in Toronto, don't come to Queen West as it's hopping on the weekends. We're in our 40's, still like to have a fun time, we loved it and will most definitely be back to the Gladstone

Room Tip: Don't get the lead in room, the bathroom was like an airplane washroom....

I booked a couple of nights at Gladstone at the occasion of an event I was organizing for my job. We invited 12 persons enjoying Toronto during Pride/Digital Dreams week end.
The contact with Gladstone team was really nice at first. They helped us to organize the best venue for our guests.

As for the nights we spent there, rooms are really beautiful. Not that big though, but I had the 303 that's quite huge. Beds are incredibly confortable...

As positive points: really nice design, cool and helpful staff, good food (try the banana bread French toast for the brunch, it's amazing), perfect location in West Queen West, a perfect place to go out and enjoy some social and trendy places

Less positive points: air conditionning can be noisy, my shower was really small - hard to fit in even for my small size

Anyway, this is a perfect hotel to enjoy a couple of nights in Toronto, I will highly recommend the place for a romantic WE or enjoying some good time with friends.
Special mention to the really cool (and cute) staff at the front desk, the crazy old elevator and the amazing stairs!

My husband and I went on a 5 day road trip and stayed 2 nights at the Gladstone Hotel which we found through the NY Times "36 Hours in Toronto" It is a charming boutique hotel in a neighborhood that we would never have found if not for that article. The staff was extremely helpful, the walls are filled with art work, and the bed was heaven. Great air conditioning on a hot summer day. The hotel has bars and restaurants but we did not try them as I had a whole list of places to go. We would highly recommend this hotel for people who would like some adventure.
