We attended a conference and one of the people recommended this hotel. It's lovely, location is a little far from downtown... and the rooms are small! If you have claustrophobia issues like me, the shower means you leave the door open as it's tiny

Room Tip: I'd recommend asking for a room at the back, the front where we were was noisy... traffic and tr...

Stayed at the Gladstone for a wedding. The hotel is house in a renovated historic building. The hotel has an artistic theme throughout and also hosts arts shows and sales. Overall it was fairly nice. The laid back but upscale atmosphere was a nice change to chain hotels in downtown Toronto. The room I stayed in (301) was disappointing. It was extremely small and had a double bed with footboard that i shared with my wife. The shower was also too small. I think that other rooms were more spacious. I would recommend ensuring that you book a larger room. Fairly expensive in comparison to other downtown hotels. You are paying for the artsy feel.

I had to attend a conference at the Exhibition grounds on princess street. We went as a group of 6 people, and took 4 rooms. This is one of the unique hotel located downtown in Toronto around the corner from the other famous DRAKE hotel. This is s mall hotel, that used to be a low budget housing building. It has been converted into a hotel, and it is filled with Canadian art and scenes, not only in the rooms themselves, but also outside in the lobby and the restaurant. It also has an old style elevator with a real elevator operator.

The rooms are based on some artistic theme, mine was maple room, ie it had maple leaves affixed all over the room, and nicely done so it looked like the fall in New England! The entire hotel has hardwood floors, and very tastefully done. If you are not an artsy type, this will give you a real live example what it means to take in the art scene in Toronto.

The price per room was around $230 per night, pretty reasonable for Toronto area. The hotel is only 6 mins drive from the exhibition grounds, so for us, it was very convenient. They have limited parking, and the parking a spot across the street in the parking lot for a cafe also called Gladstone cafe. The cafe is not owned by the hotel, however, they rent out the parking spot to the hotel. It costs around $15 per day to park there.

The area that the hotel is located on, is very multi-cultural - from mexican cusines, to arabic, to chinese, to Italian, etc. So plenty of places to eat. Our friends ate an Ethiopian restaurant - apparently it was good.

The staff at the fron desk were very friendly and extremely helpful. Thanks to the team for a wonderful showing. The staff in the restaurant were also very friendly.

We had breakfast at the hotel. It was a great breakfast, and the kitchen is very flexible. There is plenty of "healthy" choices, as this is an arts place!

If i had more time, i would definitely stay at this hotel, as the experience was much different than the traditional hotels i have stayed in the past. They do give you membership to a sports club nearby, but i never got a chance to use the voucher.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Actually, not much of a choice, because this is downtown core area, but i would pick a room overlook...

For our daughter's 16 birthday we decided to give them a gift that was about "experience". We researched several hotels and decided on the Gladstone. Not only does this hotel have significant history in the city the option to book rooms that reflected their styles. The girls loved it. I would have to say we equally had a good time determining what room we wanted.

Loved that in the morning big carafes of coffee and tea were placed in the foyer of each floor ensuring that 1. you could have as much coffee as you needed to get going 2. you didn't need to get out of your pj's.

The old fashioned elevator was beautiful.

For those looking for something outside of the box, the Gladstone fits the bill.

Room Tip: Go on their website which shows all the different rooms. They provide each room with ear plugs for t...

We stayed at the Gladstone because of a book launch event that's being held in the Ballroom. As it turned out, it's an amazing find. Located on Queen Street West, it's not downtown Toronto but quite accessible. This is not your normal cookie cutter chain hotel but a funky place with an impressive history (as the longest continuously run hotel in Toronto since 1889). Each room is unique and designed by an artist or interior designer. Because it is situated on Queen Street with the streetcar operating just outside and other vehicular traffic, it is not a quiet place. The hotel provides ear plugs! And if you're a light sleeper, you will need them. The staff are very friendly and the service excellent. The ride up in the birdcage elevator (a genuine antique that is still operational) is absolutely like stepping back in time. The rooms themselves have soaring 12 ft ceiling but generally on the small side. That's because they've had to steal space for en suite bathrooms that weren't a requirement back when the hotel was built. They provide wireless Internet access throughout the hotel at no charge and there is also a tablet (Samsung) provided in the room. All in all, it's cozy and well worth a stay.

This time we had a one night stopover en route from Vancouver to Europe and took advantage of a special package including accommodation and two tickets to the AGO. Had fun choosing our room from among the many different artist-themed rooms, and wandered the halls looking at the current art show. We'll stay again when we return to Toronto.

This is probably one of my favorite places to stay and I wish my travels took me to Toronto more often so I could stay here more!
I stayed in the Queen Suite. Loved the brick wall - the decor in the room was perfect - funky and comfortable. I loved the decor in the building; there was a lounging room on my floor and interesting art throughout the hallways. I was completely cared for - from help to my room, to wonderful coffee in the morning (coffee is important - and it must be good coffee!). Location was fantastic for what I needed.
Love love love the Gladstone.
Hope to stay there again soon!
