“Museum cute but time your visit for the Ribfest”

Thomson Memorial Park

Attraction details

On holiday here from Uk and visiting relatives close by we saw the Ribfest advertised on the park so thought it was worth a visit. As it was early on day 2 of the 4 day fest and not too crowded we called into the small Museum also on the park site. What makes this an attraction is the very friendly, knowledgeable and 'couldn't be more helpful' staff.
The Ribfest itself is exactly as it says on the tin ! a festival of RIBS with a plethora of huge stands openly grilling (mainly) ribs but also other meats. Each vying to win the best rib/ best sauce etc prize. All jolly fun and also yummy. There are plenty of other food outlets mostly of a healthy nature such as real lemonade, a funfair and craft type stalls and various music makers throughout the days. Parking and entrance were free (make a donation only) which was quite unusual. A really nice event for us visitors to enjoy with local people.

Thomson Park is great for the usual walking and park activities but the bonus is the Scarborough Historial Society museum which consists of a log cabin and a house. There are different events at the museum throughout the year. One special park occasion is Canada Day with many locals attending.

Good park in the middle of the city. Amazing how much green space there is throughout the city, such as TMP. Good activities for Canada Day usually. Good walking/hiking.
