Owner description: The Ed Mirvish Theatre began its life in 1920 as a combination vaudeville and motion picture theatre in the Pantages theatre circuit. With its original 3373 seats, it was the largest cinema in Canada and, with its lavish interior - designed by the great theatre architect Thomas Lamb - the most elegant. David Mirvish officially renamed the iconic building The Ed Mirvish Theatre on December 6, 2011.

The Ed Mirvish is another classic Toronto theatre. I don't like comparing any of them to Broadway, since Toronto has premiered many shows in North America, even before going to Broadway.

In the heart of the entertainment district, it's close to great pre-show dining, public transportation ( we take taxis there) and after, great post-show dining.

Whatever is playing, go see it. I won't review the play we saw, since you're also going to the Ed Mirvish Theatre, as much as the play. You won't be disappointed since their productions are always tops.

The shows are awesome, but the person who approved selling popcorn in the theatre should be fired! You will be listening to people behind you loudly chewing popcorn during the show. When they are finished the people beside you will start. I don't appreciate paying $130 for that! It makes Toronto low class uncultured city. I was very disappointed with people who cheapen the theatre experience with such behavior.

The show's name said it all. And rocked we were. It helps if you're a Queen fan but this is the third time for me and they keep changing performers and keeping it fresh. The theatre is like one from the past. Gloriously decorated but with comfortable seating. I'd just like to know who's brilliant idea it was to give out glow sticks to the teenagers who attended. The posse seated behind us thought it would be cool to break one open and spread it around. But even that couldn't ruin the evening. Can't wait for Kinky Boots to come next year!

The Ed Mirvish Theatre is a spectacular venue to enjoy a musical. The sound is terrific, there are great views from wherever you sit. As long as you attend a musical you like, it's difficult to imagine anyone not enjoying the venue itself. I think some of the poorer reviews of the Mirvish forgets to differentiate between the venue and a poor show. The food is reasonable and good. I had a macaroon that was superb! The architecture is magnificent and needs a little time before the show to appreciate. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Ed Mirvish theatre is an ideal locale for anyone who wants to sightsee, shop and or eat before or after a performance (depending on time of course). The friendly staff is the cherry on top of this wonderful venue. If you see a show that you think you will like, the Ed Mirvish Theatre will only enhance the experience!

Have seen many shows at this Ed Mirvish Theatre. All are world class. We have a season subscription and the performances here rival those in New York, where we frequently travel for theatre. Soon, this theatre will be torn down for condo development, so visit it before teardown.
