After reading all the reviews, two friends and I decided to stay here since it was very near the subway and the person's house that we were visiting.Upon checking in, the manager/receptionist was very helpful and accommodating and immediately arranged the rooms to meet our needs. We are all over 50 so I think you have to be more of a student to appreciate the ambiance.
I found everything to be very basic and in need of a lot of fixing up. The Annex is an older house that has been made into a guest house. The rooms are very dark and the furniture is old and painted which needs redoing. There is no closet so you have to hang your clothes up on hooks. The bathroom has a small sink, a tub/overhead shower with a handle that was almost falling off. The towels are changed once a day except Sundays. The mattress is a foam mattress on a raised frame. ( Easy to hit when getting up in the middle of the night)
The house is very well located and the security is good. You need to use your card key to get in the front door. There is a lot of street noise and traffic, as well as noise from guests going and coming. I actually turned the AC on to try and sleep after the first night when I was awaken at 3 am by someone coming in and slamming the door.
As I mentioned, this is more of a student kind of rooming house. I could have appreciated its charm when I was younger. They do try and make an effort with water and snacks available, but make no mistake this is not a full service hotel by any means. But of course they never said they were. We survived to tell the tale, but really loved the city which more than made up for it.
