I enjoyed my stay overall at HI Toronto and believe I truly "got what I paid for." To be fair, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, which really made the overall vibe very warm and comfortable. Regardless, the bedding/bedrooms/bathrooms were very basic. The WIFI was good and the location was great.

Clean rooms, Bathrooms less so. Music in the communal areas was a tad annoying when trying to skype. Basement bar is a nice idea. Friendly, informative staff.

Hopp across to the market near by - bustling with amazing food vendors. If you are canny, you don't have to pay for lunch with the free tasters you pick up!

There was no good wifi in the rooms, some chairs broken, the light of the bed was not working. Also the beddings were not very clean. The room was smelly. The music in the living room was loud all night so neither the living room was a good place to relax. People were kind but this does not compensate for the money paid.

I had an amazing experience staying in the HI Hostel Toronto. A great place to make new friends and interact with others besides the good localization, the hostel is in the hearth of Toronto.

The courtesy and friendship of the staff are great points to take consideration. They speak portuguese, Spanish and English.

They have great common areas like kitchen, Bar, pool table.

The price is cheap. I stayed in a private room for one month in Toronto. I enjoyed a lot.

I had the opportunity to know others hostel like those ones in Niagra, Ottawa, Montreal and NY.

Keep this excellent job guys. You guys are doing very well. Higly reccomended.

First of all I think it's important to say what's good about this hostel, and their are a few things:

1. Location is superb. You're close (5-10 mins walk) to the central station and most tourist attractions (and our personal favourite Yonde Street). There is also a 24 hour supermarket five mins walk away, but don't expect to find any booze in there.
2. Free WiFi. Available throughout the bottom floor, and even in your room if you're lucky. Speed was alright.
3. Free-to-use mini safe in room, plus fridge, comfortable bed and good hot shower, en suite in your private room.

Now onto the things that led to us not enjoying our time there:

4. Noise. For the love of God, if you want to get a good night's sleep either a) try not to get a room facing the courtyard, or b) find somewhere else to stay. We were in room 602 (avoid at all costs), and stayed for two nights, a Sunday and Monday. On both evenings (I assume it's every night) at 03:00 there was a huge glass waste truck emptying glasses/bottles into some sort of container - at least that's what it sounded like. It's impossible to sleep through that.

5. Windows. They seriously cannot be thicker than about five pieces of paper. You couldn't stay in this place in the winter, no way. Plus, due to the rubbish windows, it was like having no windows there and you could hear everything outside.

6. Price for private room. Obviously if you're a regular HI user than you can get membership to take the price down, but for us only staying two nights we got hit with a 20 dollar per night fee to go onto the 30 dollars we'd already paid, and then taxes. I am certain you can get MUCH better than this in Toronto for 60 odd dollars a night. If you want a private room, research and find somewhere else.

Aside from that, the reception staff were friendly, you get free food vouchers to use and the food itself isn't too bad, although I had a bad experience with the woman in the kitchen who took 30 mins to prepare our breakfast when there were only two people ahead of us in the queue, then decided to tell me to "PLEASE STEP OUT OF THE KITCHEN!" when I went to the kitchen door to ask her how long we'd be waiting as we were going to miss our train.

All in all, it does have some positive aspects, but the negatives are so severe that I would never recommend this place to anybody.

Just remember to do your research and weigh up what sort of sleeper you are and if you need a private room; if you sleep through everything and want to share with loads of people this place would be fine.

Room Tip: Research, and avoid any rooms facing the courtyard.

HI Toronto is one of the best. Great atmosphere, great amenities and plenty of activities to join. The reception staff are exceptional and the cleaners always cheerful. The Cavern Cafe; is a must: just chat with the manager Gwen and you'll feel right at home, all while she cooks you a delicious breakfast.

My friends and I booked one night at the HI Toronto. The hostel is well located in Downtown Toronto. The place is nice with a pool table, darts, a kitchen and a bar. Nice common areas and the staff is very friendly. We took a dorm for 6 people and it was pretty clean but also very small. There's a public parking ($) right beside which is very convinient for those who arrives by car. Beside that the hostel offers loads of activities and services. For me it was a okay hostel in a okay city.
