“Perfect for independent traveller”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2011

Victoria's Mansion is great if you are looking for a clean, secure no-frills stay in a convenient downtown location. Although we were not around while reception was open (this was not a problem for us, but may be for others), the staff were prompt and friendly in their correspondence and the rooms were kept tidy the entire time. We had a ground floor room which was comfortable and clean. We'd be happy to support this independent business again.

I specifically asked for a room on the ground floor because I had a heavy piece of luggage. But I was given a single room in the basement (room 3), next to the laundry. The room didn't have much light, so that one could hardly see what the weather was like outside. The bathroom was small and had a very noisy aeration system. There were just coffee facilities, but no tea! Why that?
The wifi didn't work all the time and that was quite annoying. Staff is not that friendly and you hardly see anyone at the reception. TV set very small!
Just the price is ok for the location.

We were in a single room with a cot that was added (last minute). The room was small and the bathroom was small but it was perfectly clean. Never saw another guest and didn't hear them either. There was a small fridge and microwave and even some silverware. Great location for us. For the price you can't beat the value, it is a CLEAN place to sleep. What more do you need from an establishment. When we come to Toronto we will definitely stay here again - this time booked in a room for two.

As others have commented in reviews, the room was a good size, and I really liked having he fridge available in the room. Overall, I had a very nice room (on the ground floor).

There was rarely anyone at the desk when I came or went out, which could be an issue for some, but wasn't a problem for me at all. I did forget to have the combination for the outer door lock (which you need in the evening, as there are no staff around then) with me once, and could not get in. The managers were very apologetic that I could not easily get anyone on the phone when I had called for assistance, and went out of their way to make up for the brief inconvenience I experienced. I ended up with a very positive impression, and would not hesitate to stay there again.

The room is smaller and less plush than a standard 4-star chain-hotel room, but… it was perfectly clean and quiet. And, with free wifi (you’ll pay $ 15 a day at a hotel) and $10 for overnight parking ($25 at a hotel), plus a fridge, microwave and dishes in the room, the price is very good for downtown Toronto. The location is also excellent. Close to Ryerson University and shopping on Bloor. 15 minute walk to the ROM Museum; more like 30 minute walk to the AGO art museum farther west. But it is only 2 minutes to the subway, which connects to everything quickly. Lots of bars and restaurants on the Church street strip ( which is at the door). At the corner is a Bixi Bike depot (bicycles to rent very cheaply by the hour and can be dropped off at many other locations downtown). All in all, a good deal. If you need parking, which is very limited, mention that at booking time.

Room Tip: if you need to cheap overnight parking-- book that early -- there are few spots

Nice historic house and well located just outside on the outskirts of CBD. Close to Bloor St which was handy. Staff let us into our room really early to drop off suitcases which was really nice. The problem though was that we had large suitcases and had to take them up 4/5 flights of stairs! We had the very last room on the top floor! We understand that it is a historical house but they should organise it so that international travellers get the bottom floor. Room was very small and basic. Double bed - saw mouse traps in room! Air conditioning was only allowed to be on low and didn't cool the room sufficiently enough. Had to pay $10 for unsecure parking at the back of building. Hours of front desk operation are fairly short - not open until 11am. No breakfast included. Overall only okay, probably would stay somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Do not get top floor if travelling with large suitcases!!!!

Adorable building on quiet neighborhood street, near public transportation and lots of places to eat. Very clean and homey room with private bathroom. When I came home at night from my Toronto adventures, I didn't feel like an out of towner going to my sterile generic hotel room. You even get real keys to the front door and room! Room had a microwave and mini fridge. My stay would have been perfect, but the mini fridge made weird noises and since my room was by the inner door, it was a little loud. I would suggest to them to perhaps they put something on the doors to prevent slamming.
