It is always a thrill to get fan mail, particularly when it is as positive as your experience was.

We strive every day to ensure our guests have a wonderful meal and a marvelous time at our local Irish Pub and it is extremely encouraging for someone to tell us. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us. It really means a lot to me and to everyone on our staff.

While compliments are always appreciated, we also hope that you would tell us if we ever disappoint you. If you have a chance, please ask for myself or the manager on duty the next time you visit us so that we may thank you personally.

Thank you again for your kind comments and patronage. We look forward to serving you again soon.

Best regards,
Paddy G

“Excellent pub food”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

I've been at the Gate three times in the last week. The food is very good to excellent, the atmosphere good too but the best thing about St Jame's Gate is the wait staff. Every one of them has been incredibly friendly and they know the menu well.

It is officially my Etobicoke local now.

“Good food most of the time”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

We discovered this place shortly after it opened and we thought - great! finally a good pub to eat at in Etobicoke since we don't have much in this area. We've been there many times and have recommended the place on numerous occasions, have taken many different friends and co-workers there. Unfortunately, we had one bad experience in September, 2013, which was one of the last times we went there. I ordered the Country chicken meat pie which comes with peas and mashed potatoes and is served on a long square dish. This one time it came and the meatpie was squashed, the mashed potatoes were just thrown on the plate with no peas. It looked so unappetizing. I asked the waitress where the peas were and she brought out a separate dish of peas. Obviously, there was a major problem in the kitchen that day. We never go there anymore so not sure what the situation is now.

Thanks you for the feedback.
Sorry to hear about your Country Chicken Pot Pie experience. We have definitely had our trials and tribulations in our kitchen, so much so we made a decision to hire a new head chef that started this week.
We are currently working on a new menu that we hope will ease some of the pressure on the kitchen.
We take great pride in delivering very good pub food that is made from scratch using only the freshest ingredients and quality cuts of meat.
Please come and give us a try and let our General manager know when you are coming in next.
His name is Billy and he may be reached at info@sjgtoronto.ca or 647-350-5140

“Our new local is awesome!”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

We moved to Etobicoke about a year ago from the South East end of Scarborough where there are an abundance of bars and resturants and we were afraid we would not be able to find a pub where we would be comfortable and could call home. Our old local was small, had good food and "everyone knew your name". On our first visit we sat in the dining room and were served by Aline, a beautiful Irish girl. She was welcoming and the service and food was wonderful. As we enjoy the smaller enviornment we have moved to sitting in the pub area of the resturant and have continued to receive awesome service and have been able to get to know some of the other regulars. We alway receive a friendly and warm welcome from the staff and management and they continue to suprise us with their appreciation on every visit.
Recently my husband and I planned to entertain a very small group of friends at our home. I knew The Gate catered events at their pub so I inquired if they would be willing to cater our get together. Not only did they cater it, they helped plan the menu and delivered the food ready to serve. All we had to do is sit back and enjoy good friends, beautiful weather and great food! If management hasn't already thought about expanding their business to include catering small outside event like ours then we would strong suggest they do and we would highly recommend them.

We have found our new home!

Bob and Cathy,
Thanks for the kind words.
Its nice to receive positive feedback! We constantly strive to create a true local pub that our neighbourhood can be proud of.
We are looking at branching out in the future to do some outside catering. We have recently just done a few events including a back yard barbeque and keg party.
Thanks for your support!

“Good food but too slow”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

Been here several times. The food is good and the service is pleasant but inconsistent. There is no reason why it takes so long for food to come out of the kitchen. We have stopped going here because of this.

Thank-you for your feedback about our pub.
We appreciate your remarks and agree with them.
We have been having some problems in our kitchen and decided to make a change in leadership recently as a result of slow food times, inconsistent quality and overall standards that we set for ourselves.
We have hired a new executive chef that started this week and he has already received very favourable feedback from staff and guests.
It is a work in progress but we are currently working on a new menu with our new chef that will be easier to execute but not sacrifice our current quality or standards.
Thank you
