Evergreen Brick works is one of the highlights of a trip to Toronto. Sometimes we run there Saturday morning, visit the market, enjoy unique and fresh foods, and take the shuttle bus to the subway. Other times we have hiked there, along one of the great ravine walks in Toronto.
There is much to learn about gardening, native plants, environmental projects, and a range of useful information. In the winter, there is a skating oval. The restaurant is great - both sit down and take out.
One of the unique features of the Brickworks is the old brickworks, restored as an industrial site, so you can see how bricks were made. Many of the older homes in Toronto were made using brick from the brickworks. Well worth a days visit.

Great to visit Saturday mornings when the market is in full tilt. Good local produce and tons of great food vendors for snacks or lunch. Very friendly vibe going on. The buildings have been nicely transformed withe some of the original architecture still in place. Behind the buildings there are walking trails with indigenous plants. Lots to do with the kids.

Excellent variety of locally grown and organic produce. Fun atmosophere for kids and beautiful grounds to walk around and explore. Trail system closeby so market is accessible for biking/hiking if you live in area. Onsite restaurant and other eateries available only on market days. My family loves coming here on summer saturday mornings!

We decided to visit Brick Works on a whim on a recommendation from a friend. We totally loved it and wished we could have stayed all day. There are so many activities for the whole family. The food at the cafe was wonderful (a tad pricey but tastes and fresh) and the shop is a treasure trove of interesting stuff. Take the time to explore the many trails and see where they lead you. I wish it was a bit easier to access on foot with a baby carriage though....

My husband and I took out bikes out and rode here from Leslieville - about 30 minutes. Much faster than taking public transit here, so if you can, rent a bike and explore the beautiful Don Valley on your way here.
There was so much I loved about this place! Here are my favourite parts:
1) How it was lovingly and restored with so much 'green' innovation. This place was a ruin and with some creativity it has become an incredibly lively venue that has something for every age group
2) The garden centre and shop. So many incredible, locally made items - from gourmet sauces to local honey and a huge assortment of plants and pots, I could have stayed here all day drooling over everything.
3) How photogenic this place is. From the old kiln area housing The CONTACT Festival's "Detroit" exhibit, to the children's garden where kids are armed with wheelbarrows and seedlings, everything is pretty and interesting and lovely for photos. Right in the heart of the Don Valley, in the Spring I think there is no prettier place to be.
4) How it takes you out of the hustle bustle. Being here makes you feel like you have escaped the city and landed somewhere rural for the afternoon.
5) There is always something going on. This weekend there was a secret craft beer market, and a photography exhibit - but on weekends there is a bike shop, a restaurant, and lots of interactive/learning areas. And this would be such a wonderful wedding or event venue!

I love it here - I have found my people and I can't wait to go back to buy more goodies at the store.
