We stayed at the Inn for the first time after attending a wedding at this venue. A group of us stayed and had breakfast together the next morning. We overlooked a courtyard, but I'm sure must be beautiful in the warm weather when all the flowers are out. The room was lovely and the staff very helpful. Highly recommend it for a romantic get-away.

My husband and I decided to have a romantic getaway not too far from home. We stayed one night on a coupon deal (December 29, 2012) and really enjoyed it. It was our first time visiting the inn and the staff were really friendly and professional and made us welcome as soon as we approached the reception desk.
The Inn is Tudor-style and furnishings are quite ornate. So if you like modern decor, this isn't the place for you! The inn is quite a distance from downtown near a residential area in a very nice part of Toronto. It is truly "Sleepy Hollow" so if you want noise and action, find a different hotel.
Because of the coupon, we were given a (chilled) bottle of wine and a small box of chocolates. Both were in our room with romantic music playing on the stereo when we first arrived. A terrific first impression! The jr king suite had a gas fireplace and was really lovely. The separate bath had rose petals strewn all around it when we first arrived -- another lovely touch to truly set the scene for us.
We had a drink in the hotel bar. Unfortunately there was no live piano music that night but I'm sure it's a fun environment when there is! The menu is a little pricey for typical bar fare so opted to eat in the main dining room because the prices weren't that much higher. The grilled calamari was excellent. We asked for one portion to share and the waiter was kind enough to bring it already sorted onto two different plates, which was much appreciated. Overall, the service was excellent. However, prices are quite high. If you haven't had the complimentary wine (!), I would suggest driving elsewhere to dine to save some money. The hotel's parking lot is located outside, uncovered and across the street from the hotel (but we had zero safety worries).
A DJ was on hand to play some canned music from the 60s-present in the huge two-storey. It was a fun atmosphere with people of all ages dancing to tunes old and new. The restaurant has a fairly large dance floor and we could understand why the hotel is a favorite for weddings.
The coupon included a continental breakfast in a room set aside from the main dining room called the Terrace Room (it's located near the courtyard and must be lovely in the warmer weather -- apparently the gardens are quite nice). We asked for a window seat to enjoy the snow-covered courtyard. The breakfast was better than we had expected with assorted pastries and fresh fruit, as well as cup of yogurt and a variety of cheese. They also had salmon. There was also a breakfast menu with typical breakfast menu items but again, items were too pricey. Regardless, we were full with what was offered so no complaints.
I would definitely recommend the inn for anyone who wants a quiet getaway away from Toronto's busy downtown nightlife.

Room Tip: Ask for a jr king suite if possible. There are larger suites with living rooms attached but the jr s...

The Old Mill is billed as among the finest hotels in Toronto. It's really more of a banquet hall. The food is expensive and the quality is not commensurate with the price. In or case we arrived on Dec 29. at 4 for 'guaranteed check in'. Well, the room was almost ready. We were asked if we wanted turn down service and we said yes. The room was not touched that evening or at all the next day at which point I asked if it was necessary to request housekeeping. Apparently they just plain forgot about us. There was not one day when housekeeping service went as promised. Further, while some of the staff is excellent, many are very young and some are simply not as gentile as they should be. Finally the sent of apple cinnamon is pumped into the hallway morning, noon and night. If this appeals to you, you have the right place.

Dear momof3salas,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your stay with us. We take all of our guest feedback very seriously and I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations. With regards to your room not being serviced as expected, we have a very strict policy of not entering a guest bedroom when the "Do not Disturb" sign is hung outside. For future reference if you would like your room to be cleaned at a particular time please ensure that this sign is not hung on the exterior door knob.

I will personally address the Front Desk staff to ensure that our service levels do not waiver no matter their perceived age. We aim to extend warm and courteous service to all of our guests at all times.

We hope that you will chose to stay with us again in the future.

Sincerely,

Vas Kolovos

Upon arrival we were greeted with warmth and efficiency and given, I am guessing, the best accommodations allowed in the Premium King Suite package we purchased. Our suite (#404) had the only balcony that overlooked the inner court garden, making us feel like VIP guests. Unfortunately, with the winter set in, the plant life and water features were not there to brighten the view. But, the charming view of the brick and wood buildings and the courtyard still added an old world appeal to our stay.
The suite was spacious with very high ceilings having a sitting room with fireplace, a rather large bedroom with a sitting area, writing desk and an armoire housing a 40” LED TV. The bathroom had a large two person Jacuzzi tub surrounded with fresh rose pedals and candles; a nice welcoming touch. I have included pictures of the suite, but I didn’t get any pictures of the courtyard view or the room from the courtyard. Both would have been a nice touch to show off the quaint, relaxing atmosphere; my apologies, next time.
Initially, we booked a Wednesday night so we could experience the dining room we heard so much about. We tried to book dinner for the evening and ran into first, an unexpected cover charge of $10.95 because a band was playing that evening (and apparently, every evening they were open) and second, a bit of attitude when we didn’t want to conform to a forced cover and the booker trying to put us next to the dance floor, twice. We really just wanted a nice quite dinner where we could talk and enjoy our meal so we finally were able to get a table booked in the Terrace Room. However, the perfect romantic evening was tarnished by too many negative feelings surrounding the booking process so we decided to cancel the Wednesday.
We stayed on a mid-December Monday night, avoiding any large Christmas parties that may have been booked. The Dining Room was closed so we ate in the Home Smith Bar, almost exactly what we wanted. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service very good and the pub fare food was surprisingly delicious; though, a bit on the pricey side for wings and ribs. The tables were low so we didn’t want to chance anything other than finger food. Because we wanted the complete experience we put up with the inflated food prices, though there are plenty of restaurants in the area if you prefer. We are glad we ate in the Home Smith Bar, which allowed us to relax into the enchantment of the Inn.
The night we did stay, the inn was practically empty affording us an unrestricted self-tour of the facilities. The resources for everything from an intimate gathering to the grandeur of a majestic ball surprised and thrilled us as we imagined the countless functions held in the castle-like settings. Spring and summer must bring the entire place to life, with the gardens in full bloom. No wonder so many weddings are hosted here.

Room Tip: If possible, request suite #404 or any suite overlooking the inner courtyard for that old world char...

My wife researched the internet to find the Old Mill Inn and Spa as part of our first trip to Toronto. She has always been extremely successful with her selections; and we were wonderfully rewarded with her choice this time. We were most impressed with all aspects of our stay; from the expert staff, fabulous accommodations, and close access to public transportation to downtown Toronto. Our only disappointment to an otherwise delightful stay was the absence of the jazz ensemble we had hoped to see. They had taken a week off, unfortunately during out stay. This is definitely a place one should consider in their Toronto travel planning. We loved it and will surely return.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are a little smaller than others, but not to a detrimental degree.

My husband and I have been to the Old Mill a few times for an anniversary get away and it is perfect every time. the rooms are spectacular and the service is supreme. Hidden in Humber Valley, this hotel is quiet with fireplaces and complimentary bottle of wine in your room. Despite it being a place for major entertaining, the hotel rooms are located away from the party venues. We enjoyed dinner in the jazz bar and listened to a great trio for the evening. Breakfast is included and is perfect before check out. The Old Mill is a nice change from the downtown busy hotels of Toronto.

Room Tip: take advantage of Bloor West Village and Humber Valley for a walk - great place of Toronto to see.

We had tickets for the Jazz FM "Christmas Kiss" concert at the Old Mill and as we have in previous years, we decided to stay overnight. I booked the room using the internet special and was told that included the "basic" room -- was a bit worried because before we had the king rooms which were lovely. I was pleasantly surprised when we checked in -- the room we had was on the garden level, had a fireplace, a jacuzzi tub and a comfortable bed. The only thing it didn't have was a view, and since we checked in at 5 p.m. and back out at 7 a.m., it was dark the entire time we were in the room anyway - so wasn't an issue. Very quiet and peaceful sleep.

We went to dinner for our 6:30 p.m. reservation prior to the 8 p.m. start of the concert. We were still waiting for our food when the concert began - no idea what the problem was. People all around us were being served, but not us. When the food did come, it was disappointing. I have had their caesar salad before and quite enjoyed it. This time, it was a big hunk or romaine with dressing on it and a few croutons -- not enjoyable and very difficult to eat. The main courses weren't bad, but certainly not worth the amount that was being charged. Service was slow for the entire evening - very disappointing. Breakfast the next morning was also uninspiring.

Too bad - we've been many times and enjoyed it -- will give it one more try next year and then if it doesn't improve, will still attend the Jazz FM show and stay over, but will eat elsewhere ahead of time and just go to the dining room for the show and drinks.
