“Delicious quick lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

We came here for lunch on a weekday and there was seating available immediately. We sat at the bar and ordered one plate of the chef's "special" pad thai to share (we couldn't take any leftovers home and didn't want to waste food). It was absolutely delicious! We ended up wishing we'd gotten two full orders so we could gorge ourselves. It was saucier than I'm used to and pretty spicy at a "medium" but I actually liked it better than a lot of other pad thai's I've had. Pricing was really reasonable and the service for us was friendly and quick. We were in and out in about 45 minutes, which was great for getting on with our sight-seeing afternoon. Honestly, if I lived here, I would definitely be a regular!

“Overrated and not worth the wait.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

This place has a joke for hosting/seating situation and there is no hospitality to speak of. The restaurant is small and cramped. The wait times are very long and the host is annoying in that they try to guestimate when there will be a free table but they do not have a seating time limit. This makes the guestimate absolutely useless. We were told to return to the host stand at 8:15 and we did. Things drug on and on at the table we were waiting for and we were not seated till 8:45. They took orders at 9:00 and food came out at 9:40. An absolute mockery of my time and the food was no better then your run of the mill Thai suburban strip mall joint. Overrated and not worth the wait. It was kind of cute because the workers think they are something special....jokers! Seeming to be a trend here in Toronto.

We have visited Thailand many times and thought the food here was very comparable to the real thing. Loved the fact some of the staff are actually Thai.

“Horrible reservation policy and service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

Every month for the past 3 years, 8-10 of us hit a different restaurant to try what is new and trendy in the city. We arrange with the restaurant ahead of time and many chefs have even created special menus for us. We're all committed to meeting and have had an amazing adventure. Never once in all this time have we encountered a problem with a reservation or an incident with a restaurant. We order different foods, photograph the dishes and post on our Facebook page our adventure and give a review. We're also not shy about spending $$.
We booked a reservation for 7:00pm at Khao San Road and one person unfortunately had to drop out at the last minute (the restaurant charges $20 for no shows) and one person was running late because of downtown Toronto traffic. Not only would they not seat us, they continued to "remind" us about their "policy" over and over again to the point that we were feeling bullied. (Plus, they will only seat for 90mins so you have to eat and move out quickly) We were waiting outside the restaurant and their staff person was waiting with us mostly and constantly at us about being late that it was embarrassing and belittling to us in front of other diners who were seated outside. Eventually a small argument ensued between us and the person from the restaurant because he wouldn't stop telling us about their policy, that they were going to charge us for the no show, and since it was 7:05pm we were going to lose our reservation and we would have to wait another 30mins to be seated...if there was space.
We finally gave up and left and will NEVER step into this restaurant and for others BEWARE of their policy. Instead, we went to their competition Sukothai and had an amazing meal with fantastic service.
NEVER in 3 years have we encountered such behavior. It was appalling and sad that a restaurant makes it so difficult to patronize their place. They are obviously having issues with reservations but this is not a solution.

“Good Pad Thai”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

My husband and I were visiting the Toronto area and decided to try Khao San Road, it was very busy, we went on a weeknight around 7:00 pm and there was a 20 minute wait. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very noisy we got a shared table, which we are OK with and it was slightly difficult to hear if you didn't talk loudly. I thought the atmosphere seemed like it was for younger crowd of people, I don't think children with young children would want to go there because it was very crowded and loud.
The food seemed somewhat authentic for most of the thai I have eaten, I'm not a super world traveler, but the spring rolls were fresh and tasty and for our entrees we had the pad thai and another noodle dish. We felt the ingredients were fresh and it seemed as if the restaurants staff took pride in the dishes they sent out, it didn't seem rushed and the dishes were well put together. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone looking for good thai food with a fun atmosphere.
